Ah! MIA-ANC! A real Continental MR classic of the past! Classic convos with checkin agents....
CO checkin agents: "Just curious... Why are so many of you going to ANC for such short periods?"
CO agent: "Why route via LAX?"
Shark: "Because I can't force it through SJU in both directions."
Met FT member rtarbuck on the turn @ ANC in 2008. Great thing about FT: no need to ask "What are you doing here?" when you meet these guys halfway around the world, for five minutes, in the gate area at random.
Unfortunately he is deceased now
Thanks for the headsup. Might take one for old times' sake.
FWIW, there's also a UA T fare for DFW-ANC for about $40.- more, i.e. from $377 a.i., but the best routing I could find for that one comes to more than 5 cpm.
interesting fare. can position on UA SMF-SFO-SEA-ANC and reverse for ~$480, netting about 5500 with 500 mins, then get the 10k from ANC-MIA, for an all-in MR/positioning net of ~5.3cpm. other airports on the west coast might have better luck working out the positioning/MR stack and keeping it all under 5cpm.
edit: going at it the other way -- SFO-MIA-ANC-MIA-SFO for $660/14336 miles. 4.6cpm.
i grabbed SMF-MIA-ANC-MIA-SMF for $737/14500pqm. no problem finding it on .bomb multicity.

united.com won't price L fare even if inventory is available. I tried using round trip or multi-city options. Do others have luck in booking this fare?

Have you clicked through to the entire itinerary that you are sure is available? ual.com is not smart enough to see that the entire trip is in L. it's a known flaw of COdbaUA.
yeah, there are some good ones out there for this fare. for the SFO to work at 4.6cpm you have to do SFO-FLL, MIA-ANC, and FLL-SFO but the timing for airport transfers works out on many itineraries on matrix.
