AA/UA/DL: BOS-SIN <$1100 RT AI 4.3 - 4.8 cpm possible

While this is far from the best MR I've ever seen, there are two notable advantages to this fare:

1. Available across all alliances, and more importantly...

2. No minimum stay requirement!

DL's fare lists 1 free stopover and 2 additional stopovers at $100 each, but only at the gateway city, and not allowed in Japan or anywhere else in the Pacific. UA's has 2 for $100 each. Staying a couple of days seems to drop the price a little bit. Best routing on DL is BOS-(as many stops as you can make work)-ATL-NRT-SIN. UA appears to be BOS-SFO-HKG-SIN. AA requires the TPAC flight to be on AA or JL, no option for CX. Best routing on AA seems to be BOS-DFW/LAX-TYO-SIN, there are some BOS-MIA-JFK-HND-SIN routings out there but those are harder to get. You CAN book the JL 787 TYO-SIN if available, but the BOS-NRT 787 route doesn't seem to have availability for this fare. DL and AA are MPM (Maximum Permitted Mileage) on this route. UA has its typical labyrinth routing rules.

UA books into K. DL books into T. AA books into Q. Fares valid with 7 day advance booking from now through mid-December, and January and beyond, at least through to April 2013. UA I can get down to 4.7 cpm, DL below 5.0 cpm, but AA is stubbornly stuck at 5.1 cpm. Simpler routings are under $1000. 22000+ miles very possible on this. Good luck!

Editing Original Post:

Finally got ITA to cooperate with me. I'm now down to 4.3 cpm with UA, BOS-IAH-SFO-HKG-SIN and same return. Requires an overnight at IAH outbound on the dates I'm looking at. You can route through EWR or IAD for slightly fewer miles to avoid this. Should be just over 23000 miles for $1007 or so through IAH both ways. As posted in the picture below via EWR, it is 4.52 cpm:

4.6 cpm with DL, BOS-MSP-ATL-NRT-SIN and same return. Note the <40 minute connections in MSP each way, you can get DTW both ways for a few miles less if those connections concern you:

I was able to get AA down to 4.8 cpm. BOS-MIA-JFK-HND-SIN-NRT-DFW-ORD-BOS. Note that with this itin, you have 2 hours 10 minutes in SIN, and I do not know how the transit will work since you're coming from HND (Tokyo-Haneda) and returning to NRT (Tokyo-Narita). So YMMV! TPAC segments are on AA, so depending on availability, you can use the SWU to get J.

SIN has been around for close that much on UA off and on for a while. I booked several weeks ago for Presidents day weekend in SIN. I wish more asian cities would drop below 5CPM. I'm already going to SIN in May as well with an SQ award. Either way nice to knock out almost an entire elite level in a long weekend

Indeed. What caught my eye was the short turn potential. It isn't great as a pure MR cpm-wise, but I haven't seen a lot of no stay required fares to Asia. Not a bad way to get a lot of miles quickly (44k+ award miles if you're elite with a 100% bonus as well in one trip, and SWU-able on AA).

Well, I'll take Air Japan over UA in a heart beat especially in Y.

AA: BOS-SIN $1100ai. Nice fare, especially with no stay required.

Are there any visa requirements in SIN?

I wish. SIN is near the top of the personal list of places to go, but I don't have time off, and this is nearly impossible to do in only 2 days. Too much flying. If I hadn't already requalified for EXP, I'd be spending somewhere around 8 hours in SIN over Columbus Day .

That is the other advantage to SIN for US citizens on this fare. It's pretty simple, nothing special needed to transit NRT and no visa or waiver or anything for SIN.

In terms of 6 to 8 hours layover, which airport is better: SIN or HKG?

For me, it depends if it's in the middle of the night or not.

Full disclosure: Hong Kong is the best place on earth.

However, if you arrive (as I've done on multiple trips to SIN in the past) on UA past midnight and leave the following morning around 6 am or so, SIN is definitely a better place if you don't plan on leaving the airport.

There is a bunch of 24 hour food options inside and outside security, a set of cinemas (inside security), free wi-fi, video game stations, etc.

But, the moment you can leave the airport, Hong Kong is instantly the preferable option, unless you like sterile, expensive cities - then chose Singapore.

I would choose HKG, but Singapore Changi airport has the most awards in terms of best airports by business travellers
