Agreed - I would love to see that, or an east coast to EZE for <$1K...!

Why $1000 for approx 20K?? why not SFO-BKK or some thing like that, or SFO-EZE and spend a day or two in inexpensive places ( quite nice too ) and rack up similiar mileage at a similiar cost?? Just curious.. Do you know Bill Ranford??
While what you say is true, it's a whole lot less using e-certs* Now as to Bill Ranford, no I don't know him but I did see him play

*just over 25,000 eqms for just under $175.00

Stupid newbie question

Ok, so dumb question...how do you book one of these complicated itineraries?

Sep 9-10 SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-CLE-LAX-SFO $247ai (6894mi ~3.6cpm)

When you go to United.com - it's not clear how I would book a flight with these connections.

Thanks,
Adam

Do it using the multi-city option. You can enter up to 6 city pairs.

You may have to book it as 2 one ways. Try to book with the multiple destinations function on United.com. You should try to book it as SFO-LAX, LAX-FLL, FLL-LAX, LAX-SFO. Hope that works. Even if the SFO-LAX desired flight is priced higher, should change to lower price once completed.

You can also use the ITA Matrix (matrix.itasoftware.com) enter your origins and destinations, then click "advanced routing codes" and type "UA UA UA" in each of the two boxes that appear. This will give you the best way to search and find the best deal or most convenient schedule, then you can use the Multi-City option on united.com to book what you find.

Seems a fallacy to me. Sure, its just $175 out of pocket, but the value of the e-certs isn't $0. You could use them for other things so I'd say you should factor in the cost. If I find a two trips for same miles but one is $300 more and I rationalize that a $300 ecert makes them even then I'm tricking myself. The most expensive one obviously costs more.

I have to agree. Aside from the fact that the e-certs have an equivalent cash value, not everyone has a bottomless bucket of e-certs to use. When I see a fare posted here inclusive of the poster's e-certs, I'm a little annoyed. That would dissipate with a gift of e-certs, however.

Without meaning to sound argumentative , the same holds true for having or not having a bottomless supply of cash and with that, everyone's decision to "run" or not on a given fare is up to them based on their individual situation. Some prefer inti'l trips and some prefer domestic, some are employed and some are not and I fall into the the latter employment category so I have to look at the bottom line out of pocket expense for me and in the case of this fare, I cannot afford to drop $225 per ticket nor the net of roughly $1,100 for the 5 tickets so I make a concsious decision based on what "assets" (cash, certs and etc) I have and how much time I can afford to spend away from looking for work (some can run during the week and I can't)

So with all of that (and I hope it makes sense [i.e. we're all different when it comes to m/running] ), I don't mean to gloat with "hey, I used an e-cert and you didn't" but rather all I did was explain that my net out of pocket was $175 when it was asked why didn't i just do one int'l run for roughly the same amount of money and miles

Any SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-CLE-LAX-SFO left? And is 59 minutes too short for a turn in FLL?

Hey all, I'm thinking about booking one of these in Sept and can't seem to find anymore SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-CLE-LAX-SFO. Does anyone see any still available? The best I've found is SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-ORD-LAX-SFO for 3.68cpm.

Also, looking at the SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-CLE-DEN-SFO options, they land in FLL at 12:05pm ET and depart FLL at 1:04pm ET; Is this too tight, or should I be okay? FWIW, here's the full itinerary:

Quote:
Sep 21
UA 1594 SFO 6:30PM LAX 8:06PM
UA 834 LAX 11:05PM CLE 6:26AM (Sep 22)
UA 356 CLE 9:15AM FLL 12:05PM (Sep 22)

Sep 22
UA 744 FLL 1:04PM CLE 3:49PM
UA 1107 CLE 4:45PM DEN 6:05PM
UA 262 DEN 6:55PM SFO 8:27PM
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance you can provide on this one!
Luke

P.S. This is my first FT post/reply ever.

Welcome to FT.

at least from the Itinerary you quoted, if i'm reading it correctly, you land in FLL on Sept. 21, and depart FLL on Sept.22. Therefore, connection time would not be a problem, lol.

If i'm not reading it correctly, and it IS a same-day connection, then most likely you'll be taking the same plane back to CLE that you came in on, obviously with no connection problems. Based on the timing of the flights, this appears to be the case.

If they're different planes on the same day, as an FLL native, I can tell you that you will have 0 problems making it to a different flight as long as the inbound is on time. FLL terminals are really small and easy to get to.

Again, welcome to FT.

Thanks! And it is a same-day connection.

It's the latter, a same-day connection. The itinerary was confusing how I copied it over; The SFO-FLL route lands on 9/22 and the FLL-SFO route departs on 9/22. I'll correct this in my previous post. Thanks for pointing that out, and thanks for the help and guidance on the connection question.

And I will be flying SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-ORD-SFO on Sep 21-22,
and SFO-LAX-CLE-FLL-CLE-SFO on Sep 28-29.

I wouldn't think stopping in DEN from CLE would result in significantly more miles.

ETA: I think it's 7 miles more.
