I've done quick turns in SJU and not had a problem. It is essentially a domestic airport, and not as international as some expect. As long as you don't plan on leaving the terminal (and don't check bags) you should be fine with 1 hr plus between flights.
Just booked SFO-EWR-SJU-IAD-SFO last weekend of Sept for $317. Not bad at all.
Yeah, I'm taking this flight on a US Air (operated by UA on 09/07-09/08) and on 10/01-10/03 (operated by US Air). Next year, I'm going to be doing the same day turn around flights and using them as a staple of my 2013 Gold qualification.
I would think it'd be SWU upgradeable. Its all 'domestic' flights with sticker upgrade options. This is on AA, right?
Do you have AAdmirals Club membership or Amex Plat? Would be nice to have on that routing.
well, I would agree with you for all the flights except for SFO-JFK on AA24 (763) which is usually heavy loaded with passengers going to Europe (who potentially go there with SWU's), as well for MIA-LAX because it's going to LAX.
In fact, there were even 3 SWU upgradable seats for the trip, but I did not want to burn 2 SWU's for myself.

I'm doing SEA-LAX-ATL-SJU on the 2nd of Sep, then hopping over to Tortola for a few days. Snagged a $99 o/w + taxes STT-MIA-MCO.... all EQM's for my Alaska account.. yay!
I noticed that the Delta fares included a free stopover. Though the SLC-SJU-SLC fares were around $430rt, I had some orphaned legs on other trips that I needed to fill in anyway, so I got the following for $365rt ai for 8,002 miles. It only comes in at about 4.6 cpm, but I needed those outer segments anyway and they would have cost $259 on Southwest, bringing me down to an effective $106rt for the SJU portion and 1.3 cpm! Not to mention the slight possibility of an upgrade, guaranteed economy comfort, and secured gold status for next year! Thanks OP!
