I understand this promotion probably is the result of price war between these two Air Giants, UA and AA, especially going into other's hub terfs. It is good for our consumers.

However, most of us do not live in these hubs. In order to take these opportunities, for example, I could buy a ticket like this: BOS-ORD-NRT-ORD-BOS and if my location is ORD, I still have to check in at BOS, but when I come back, can I just walk out ORD after custom inpection, not continue to BOS since I only have carry-on bags? Do they forfeit my accumulated PQM and RDM so far in this example or I have to complete this entire trip?

Thanks.

You would not receive miles for the last leg. The balance of your trip should be OK. I did a similar trip recently and that's the result I experienced.

Bought 4 round trip tickets for FLL-PVG/PEK via ORD/IAD from FEB - Nov, 2013, my home location is IAD. These 4 trips to China are all in Global F, with 150% PQM and 350% RDM as 1K. With around $12,000, I got 4 trips to China in Global First in 2013, 100,000 PQM to requalify 1K Next Year and over 200,000 RDM. On my original planned trip in Dec, they still ask for $13,000 for a mere 45000 PQM. What sweet deals they are, Thanks, FT!!! Thanks for the Fare war between these two air giants, UA and AA.....

These fares are still on until middle night tonight, you need to hurry for these fantastic deals!

To be fair, these fares are limited in scope and destinations. Miles/points are still invaluable to travel to certain destinations or certain airlines otherwise very difficult/expensive to get to.

I purchased FLL-IAD-ORD-PVG PVG-HKG-SFO-JFK/EWR-FLL, all on UA in A class except for PVG-HKG on KA, which is in I (business). $3200 and change. I'll spend another $320 to travel to/from FLL and then another $400 to/from PVG and BKK, but figure it's worth the extra time and money to ride in comfort. Thanks to bwiflyer01 for routing inspiration.

Any ideas if it's possible to route this with a short (transit only) layover in PVG and a longer 2-3 day stopover in HKG (either on the way back or way there)? I'm consistently getting around $3700-3800ai on ITA when I try it that way.

Oops! Looks like the fare is gone. And right when I had it nicely figured out and for $2,800 ai. C'est la vie

UA fare is gone, although they've replaced it with P-ups for about $5,500 roundtrip in each of the major markets affected. (Not a bad deal, but not even close to as exciting.)

AA fare is still there, although I imagine it'll be gone very soon too.

I believe both AA and UA fares are gone.

The business class fares may still be alive, but the ~ $3000 fares for round-trip First Class ticket appear to be gone.

It is Pity that such Gloval First fares are gone. They lasted 3 days. These airfares are never advertised, nor in the weekly United Specials, even no invitations for their loyal premier members. This is a pure underwater fare war game between these two air giants. Thanks for FT to spread. I just knew it yesterday, and bought all 4 tickets for next year travel through 3pm today. A guarantte for my next year 1K re-qualification in comfort. United is still selling 45,000 PQM for $13,000....
