More on 34 IL 2014
My husband and I love weekends and rummage sales. It's all about "the find" as we all know. We decided to drive from Indianapolis to visit relatives in Joliet the same weekend as More on 34 this year. We started in Aurora on Friday and finished up in Wyanet on Saturday. Honestly, we were very disappointed in a good portion of RT 34. Miles and miles were empty and for the most part, if you wanted to hit garage sales you had to drive deep into their neighborhoods. Sales along route 34 were minimal. Many sales we hit were disappointing. Yes, we came home with treasures. But overall, for two days, we had three xerox boxes of misc. things. No "ah-hah" moments. The drive was beautiful and we did enjoy the visit with the relatives. I am very curious to know how others found the two day event. Anyone with your take on the weekend?

This is a yearly event but not being a antiquer/junk collector, I just can't see this as popular as a town wide sponsored garage sale, which at least in my area, several towns do in the spring. As RummageQueen noted u can drive distances between homes that participate. The demographics of less people living in rural areas and farms consolidating with abandoned farmhouses denotes that. The one long range garage sale that I recall that seems successful runs in Tennessee, I think from Memphis East or so for 100 miles.

Some changes in the 8 years since this thread was created:
Website is now http://www.moreon34.com/
Endpoints are now Galesburg and Aurora, rather than Princeton and Monmouth.
It is held on Fathers' Day weekend every year.
