Ohio Airport Tests New Way to Avoid Deadly Bird Strikes
Lasers, sound cannons, dogs, falcons, trap and release, poison... Airports have many options when it comes to addressing bird populations and potential bird strikes.
Dayton International is experimenting with a new non-deadly way to avoid bird strikes: planting tall prairie grass.
Larger birds which tend to cause more damage in bird strikes also tend to avoid areas with tall grass because they cannot see potential predators hiding below/between/under the blades.

The thick grass has other benefits: preventing water runoff, taking carbon dioxide out of the air and requiring only one mowing every three years.
