Sornesen is hardly an industry analyst. Just a disgruntled former employee.
Sorensen is the Milwaukee media "go to" guy, whenever they want "expert" insight into a commercial aviation topic. His consulting firm has clients in both commercial aviation and non-related industries.
Sorensen is now saying that he believes YX might keep LAS, but provide only redeye service.
FLL and RSW are currently seasonal routes. FLL will not be flown August-October. RSW is usually flown from October/November-April.
Traditionally, the yields have been higher to RSW.
The MKE-FLL peak season loads are usually fairly strong. This has been the only nonstop service between MKE and SE Florida, though NW and DL have infrequently had direct flights to FLL, MIA, or PBI.
The cruise traffic provides some nice business, as do the snowbirds.
MKE-RSW has not been exclusive to YX, lately, since AirTran entered the picture, also with seasonal nonstops.

Are you sure about FLL? I can book a flight tomorrow for MKE - FLL on YX. The 717 looks full too and it is the middle of summer. I knew RSW was seasonal and it was always an MD80 that flew down there.

Yup. I believe MKE-FLL ends on August 4th and is not scheduled to return until November.
Currently, MKE-FLL isn't even being flown daily.
The yields on MKE-FLL are not good.

The current schedule has MKE-FLL resuming with 717 service mid-October, then switching to the MD80 11.20.08; of course, with the upcoming changes, this may not be accurate by next week.

Midwest has tinkered with the FLL schedule recently. If Midwest were to keep FLL around, I think a more ideal schedule would be to offer daily flights during the peak season and then weekend service the rest of the year to accomodate cruise traffic.
In any event, I expect to see a big pull-back in Florida flying when the new schedules are announced.

Anybody mind if we open a new thread to talk about the changes we exepct to be revealed later today and in the next few days?
This one has become such a massive, wandering catch-all thread (and I'm certainly not an innocent party) that it might be nice to start a new one. I'm guessing there will be lots of new posts.
