The first two aircraft out today have Wi-Fi - think it's free systemwide today in honor of the MKE start-up.
Wow! Those seats look nice. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Free Google WiFi at MKE through 1/15/2010

and at 46 other airports!

When you’re traveling this holiday season, you can enjoy free WiFi at 47 participating airports and on every Virgin America flight. Just bring a WiFi-enabled laptop or mobile device and stay connected to family and friends for free while you travel now through January 15, 2010.
You can see the list here: http://www.freeholidaywifi.com/

Google is working on a deal to offer free Wi-Fi at various U.S airports, between December and January.

Wisconsin locations to include MKE and MSN.

You beat me to it, flyYX; I guess great minds do think alike.

Two new eateries coming to the pre-security Food Court. Quizno's and Famous Famiglia. Should be open sometime in April of next year.

Smoking?

I booked a flight for this coming summer with the understanding that MKE had a smoking area. I see after reading this forum that that is not the case. We have a 43 minute layover with airtran. Is there anyway my husband can make it outside to smoke and back in at this airport in 43 minutes? Last time we had a layover at MDW and the security line was over an hour long and he couldn't make it out. I was trying to be proactive this time....

I have never been in a security line at MKE for more than 15 mins. From my experience you should have enough time to get outside and take a 10 min. smoke break and be back to the gate within a 40 min. layover.

+1. Just make sure he takes a look at the security line before he leaves. If it looks longer, he can always change his mind before leaving.

I believe there is also a designated smoking area if he follows the signs for the short term parking garage, level 3.

That smoking area MAY disappear this summer. The statewide smoking ban takes effect July 1. I am not familiar with the specifics of the new legislation, so I don't know if designated outdoor smoking areas on public property will still be permitted. Just be aware the new law takes effect on July 1.

I believe all indoor spaces in the airport went smoke free as of 2007, when the County's smoking ordinances were revised. Here are the recommended areas:

Mitchell ranks #10 in customer satisfaction

J.D. Power's 2010 North American Airport Satisfaction Study lists MKE as a small airport. I thought it was a medium sized airport?

J.D. Power defines "small" as less than 10 mil pax/year. Medium is 10-30 mil, large is 30+.

The "small" airports outranking MKE are: IND, RSW, TUS, JAX, AUS, PVD, PBI, ABQ and PIT.

(I agree that anyone casually referring to MKE as a "small" airport has never been to a TRULY small airport.)

MKE rated 3 across the board, on a scale of 1 - 5, which is considered "average."

The new Quizno's opened up this morning in the main terminal. Famous Famiglia should be open sometime in April.

A request has been made to move this discussion to the new (post-merger) Frontier forum.

As a matter of organizational coherence it probably belongs in the one of U.S. regional subfora where most other airport-centric threads reside. But rather than uprooting a long running topic from its original home, we'll copy and transplant it over to the new F9 parent forum and leave a closed stem here for the sake of history. (Bear in mind that my interpretation of proper location may be overridden by the board host at any time in the future. )

Please continue the discussion here.
