New e-visas for UAE for GCC Residents

Taken from Flydubai website:

"New UAE visa rules for GCC residents
Starting 29 April 2016, if you’re a GCC resident flying to the United Arab Emirates and were earlier eligible for visa on arrival, you’ll now need to obtain an e-visa before you travel. You will no longer be eligible for a visa on arrival facility. You can apply for an e-visa through one of our travel shops or by visiting the General Directory of Residency and Foreign Affairs Dubai website."

The e-visa system has been in place for nearly a year now and has been working very smoothly by all accounts. It takes only a few minutes to make the application and approval is usually instantaneous.

Does this mean we now have to pay, for those who did not have to pay for visa on arrival before (such as US citizens)?

No. US citizens can still obtain a 30-day visit visa on arrival without any charge.

This change only applies to those applying for GCC Resident visas. A US citizen who was resident in another GCC state could apply for this instead if they wanted, but then they would need to pay the fee.
