Yes call me insane but there's a small region in Iraq that has a tourist destination which is deemed to be safe in thr heavily protected region in order to maintain its safe reputation.
Has anyone gone to Kurdistan in a tour group?

I visited last year just before ISIL attacked Mosul. We had three land cruisers with each driver carrying an AK47. Security was fairly light while I was there. Now, our company has severe restrictions on travel both in Erbil and throughout Kurdistan. There were car bombs recently in Erbil and flying in is fairly difficult.
For tourism, I'd say the risk is too great at the moment.
