Fair enough that I missed the part about the train station, but the real trick in all of this is actually getting a Jitney at the train station itself. They line up there, but some of the drivers are not fans of staying long enough for the train passengers to get to the ground level.

FYI in case this ever comes up in a search for anyone.
I was back in AC over the weekend and used the Tropiano Airport Shuttle (1-800-559-2040). It was a pretty painless process. I called the night before and made a reservation. After I picked up my baggage, I went to the ground transportation counter, told them I was waiting on Tropiano. They gave me a ticket number and a courtesy phone to call Tropiano. The dispatcher told me they were waiting for another passenger. I had to wait about 30 minutes and my car showed up. The other passenger didn't show, so I got a ride from PHL, dropped off at my hotel (Bally's), in a new Lincoln Town Car for $45 + tip. Pretty good except for the wait, but much cheaper than actually hiring a car. They also have shuttle buses they run.
At the airport I saw the numbers for 2 other AC shuttle services that had posted prices less than $45.
AAA Airport 1 Direct and Rapid Rover were both posted at $5-8 less than Tropiano.

I was doing a search for transportation for AC, and I came upon this thread. I wanted to add that there is a Greyhound bus that travels from PHL to AC for $30 roundtrip if you prepay on the Internet, or $40 roundtrip for a refundable fare. It looks like the trip back is open so that you can change the date of the return trip if needed without paying a penalty.

Yep, the train from Philly to Atlantic City is super easy. It gets very crowded on summer weekends as you move along, though. Also, if you arrive at night, I would recommend NOT walking to the Boardwalk hotels, there is a free shuttle and taxis are cheap-ish too.

Going to make this trip in December and working out whether the train might be a better option... (if it still exists)

Yes, it still exists. Appx $20 round trip from Greyhound Station in Phila to Atlantic City where you get a $20 voucher for slot play. You need to take a taxi to the Greyhound station from the airport or take the Septa train to the Greyhound station for appx $7. Train is appx $11 one way and you do not get a voucher but the jitney will pick you up at the train station and take you to the casino for free.
