Cuidad Juarez-Worth a visit, safe during the day?

I hear lots of stories about the violence in Mexico these days around the boarder (Will be in El Paso for a day) . So two questions. Is it worth a visit and is it safe? I have been to Tijuana before and wasn't too memorable. Is it a different border expierence than Tijuana? Thanks....

I would skip CJS, there's nothing really worthwhile there. You would probably be OK safetywise; however, you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get caught up in something as an innocent bystander. If you're looking for something to do, then visiting White Sands near Alamogordo, NM is much a much better option.

I would strongly suggest you DO NOT go to CJS...just head to White Sands if you want something memorable.

I was somewhat surprised by how much I liked El Paso, particularly the area around the historic center.

If you like them, Carlsbad Caverns is one of the best caves in the U.S. to visit and you can get there easily from El Paso.

I'm hitting those up to...

1 Night Albuquerque
White Sands
1 Night El Paso
Guadalupe
Carlsbad
1 Night Carlsbad
Roswell
2 Nights Santa Fe
Still tweeking some minor details!

There is little to see in Juarez for an American tourist that's not interested in buying stuff/getting services cheaply. It's a dumbed down version of Tijuana.

It's a lot safer than one would think during the daytime. Getting shaken down by cops and overcharged by taxi drivers would be your biggest fear.
