CUN surprisingly expensive!

I'm going to Merida for a few days to look at the Aztec ruins, and was thinking about staying in Cancun a couple of days. Plenty of decent-looking hotels available, but the pricing looks extremely high by Mexican standards (we're talking about 3-4 times the going rate in MID for a hotel of comparable standard).

The Gran Melia seems to be the only international chain property I can get for under $100 a night, and they won't even throw in breakfast!

What's going on? Hasn't the flu scare provoked a cancellation of foreign bookings or what?
