I would look at booking a transfer through a transfer company, predictable cost, no 'add on' fees - USA Transfers, Cancun Transfers, Canada Transfers - there are lots of them!

I used Canada Transfers and the RT price was reasonable. Word to the wise - print your receipt/confirmation with the agreed upon price so they dont try to up charge you.

ONE Hotel recommends a Mexican transfer company called Globogo, looks significantly cheaper than any other company I've seen at 348 pesos

I used Super Shuttle to go from the airport in Cancun to the resort which was just south of Playa del Carmen. I opted for the shared ride option since it was only 26 USD each way vs. 60 for a direct shuttle. I got lucky and was the only one in the van both times so it only took 45 minutes or so to get there and with tips it only cost me $72 USD. Just be sure to book at least 24 hours in advance or you may end up waiting an hour or more for an available shuttle like some of my friends did. I'd also recommend bringing a print out of your paid reservation too to speed things up.

Mexican company Globogo Cancun transfers/tours for 40% less than competitors

I'm staying at the ONE hotel in cancun for a night and for transfers and tours in general they recommended a Mexican company called Globogo. I checked out the site and am surprised that prices are significantly priced than competitors. For example a transfer to cancun is 348 pesos / $20 instead of $35. Also a snorkeling tour is $65 instead of $135. I'm impressed and not surprised the local Spanish speaking companies usually tend to have better deals. It's almost like you pay a premium for English.

USA Transfers

My wife and I just got back from our first visit to CUN. We used USA Transfers (private shuttle). All around, service was outstanding. They reconfirmed a few days prior, and then sent an email with additional information the morning of our arrival. We were promptly escorted to a waiting van and offered drinks en route to our hotel.

They also reconfirmed our return pickup by email a couple of days prior. The driver was about 10 minutes early.

All in all very good service. $55 round trip to hotel zone, I would HIGHLY recommend.

Have you looked at Locogringo or Yucatreks for tours? How do their prices compare?

I have heard good things about Yucatreks though I have not personally used them. Their prices seem to be a bit more than competitors, especially for children. I was getting quotes on a tour. Other companies would give 50% discount on kids under 12 and free if they are under 4. Yucatreks would only give a USD 5 discount on kids regardless of age.

I used USA Transfers based on your recommendation. I confirm your positive review. I would note that you cannot pay the driver with a CC. So make sure to have cash if you have not prepaid. My driver took $USA without complaint. Also, if you are coming to this thread and you have NOT been through the CUN airport before please note that the taxi service at this airport is thoroughly corrupt. You cannot bypass the chaos at the exit and go to the 'taxi line'. Make sure to book some sort of transportation in advance.

Both USA transfer and Canada transfer are excellent.

Canada transfer have better website giving details on meeting point with diagram and they clearly state that 10 min stop for picking up water bottles (cost 1/10th of what hotels charge if not staying at AI) is free. (USA transfer states that they wil lcharge for it but in reality offers free too)

USA transfer has someone manning phones even on Sunday, Canada trasfers do not.

Booking at last minute with less than 14 hour notice did not create any issue for us.

MOST IMPORTANT THING:

Ignore EVERYONE (including official sounding uniformed staff) inside the terminal. NO eye contact. Just keep walking until you arrive meeting point OUTSIDE the building.

It is sickening to see how mexican authorities put up a worst possible first impression on the first time arrivals in Cancun. In most third world countries, they allow authorized pickup persons inside terminal with undesirables standing outside, here it is other way around.

Credit cards not accepted. They want US dollars cash. Some drivers can be very pushy about tips.

I don't know about Uber in Cancún specifically, but Uber has turned out to be reliable and economical in Mexico City, for example.

I'd definitely check where to meet my Uber at CUN airport, however, because I fear the "taxi mafia" is likely unhappy about Uber.
