Mexico City on Nov 21, 2011 (Mex Revolution Day)
 

Curious...will it be a wasted 3 day trip to Mexico City Sat night (11/19) to Tues morning (11/22) if Monday is a national holiday (Revolution Day)? My main concern would be restaurants & bars being closed Sun/Mon. Also, if I do go, what is the best way into the city? Thanks in advance...

Restaurants will still be open. In fact, most business will still be open to cater to the domestic tourists that flood the city.

In November 20th there is a big military parade around the main square (zocalo) which includes flyovers by the Mexican Air Force. This might be interesting for an fter.

It's a puente, a three-day weekend. Some city residents will head for Acapulco or Veracruz, or other touristy destinations, and Mexican national tourists from elsewhere will be visiting the D.F.

There's a military parade, as mentioned earlier. I believe it still travels down Paseo de la Reforma boulevard from Chapultepec Park, past the Alameda Central and ends at the Plaza de la Constitución in Centro Historico.

The airport's inside the city, at the NE edge. Saturday night traffic should be light and depending upon where you're staying it'll probably take you 20 minutes to reach your hotel by taxi. My suggestion is that you take one of the officially "authorized" taxi's, not a "roaming" taxi or one a tout directs you to. There are several of these official taxi desks in the arrival area and fares are fixed by zone of travel. The luggage porters are excellent at the airport and relatively inexpensive. They'll speak enough English to get you and your bags to the proper taxi desk and will walk you to the taxi line-up. I tip MX$10 per bag, less than a US$ each. For someone unfamiliar with the airport it's a useful service. There's a subway stop outside the airport but without knowing the system and if arriving with luggage I don't recommend using it. You'd have to change trains and then walk to your hotel from another station.
