What's the difference between Springhill Suites & TownPlace Suites?

I stayed at one of these Marriott Suite brands a few years ago. It must have been Springhill if that is the bottom-end brand...to me it seemed like a Fairfield Inn room with more room (and the same cheap Fairfield Inn furnishings).

What's the difference between Springhill and TownePlace Suites? Townplace closer to a Residence Inn room than Fairfield Inn? It looks like Springhill offers continental breakfast (like Fairfield), TownePlace does not.

There are both brands located near SEA and the rates for the night I'm interested in is almsot identical.

I assume that TownePlace is the better buy in this instance?

Thanks for any help.

My three thoughts on the two brands:

Towneplace Suite offers a fully equipped kitchen, while the Springhill has a microwave and small refrigerator. I stayed in a Towneplace a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed cooking meals in the evenings. Being on the road 240 nights a year, I get tired of eating in restaurants or even driving to one to pick up take out food.

Springhill provides 10 points per dollar, while Towneplace gives 5 points per dollar spent. In my mind, and again only my opinion, this is a big enough negative to stay away from Towneplace, especially for a lengthy stay. It is tough giving away MR points.

I believe both brands now offer free Internet service. When I was at the Towneplace, it offered wireless service which did not reach my room so I was without Internet for the 13 nights. Now, that was a pisser!!

I don't believe you get daily maid service at TP Suites either

You don't -- you get one 'full' cleaning per week and two 'lite' cleanings. 'Lite' cleanings don't change the bed linens or do any dusting.

Think of TPS as a lower-end version of RI. You'll get a full kitchen, but your lodging will be more of a dorm room than anything else.
