But that's of course only if you view Hilton and Marriott points equally. I see so many places where Marriott costs 35k or 40k but Hilton starts at 50k or 60k for redemptions.

And, btw, rumor (but not officially confirmed yet) is that Hilton will be TRIPLE points for mobile bookings come October. That may change the math, but (a) only if you can use mobile (some people who have to do corporate bookings can't), and (b) only for October on, not September.
I never seem to hit a Marriott or Hilton for less than $100

I agree, that Marriott's points are worth more, but with unlimited double points and the occasional bonus on top of that (currently I have one for 5000 bonus points for two stays charged to my Hilton Amex). The points are pretty much equal with a small edge to Hilton.

Personally-- I travel the midwest and I'm often in 4 different motels/cities in 4 nights on a given week. So the second stay promotion will actually benefit people like me, unless it comes out different than I'm reading it on here.

My travel varies by season, with heavy travel in the fall, so for spring or summer when I only have a couple 1-night stays then the 5K would be worth it. Probably the same for anyone with only a couple stay planned for this fall.

Promotion period is September 15, 2016 through January 15, 2017. For that reason I purposely try not to plan travel for January, May or first half of September. Next year I'm traveling in September, but that is unavoidable for numerous reasons.

Well you'd get 5K the half of the first week, then be done and move on to Hilton or something.

Or stay at Marriott for 13 of the weeks (52 nights), pocket 50K, then be done and move on to Hilton or something else for the other 5 weeks.

Cheers.
And it also seems that you can't use the AMEX Offer w/ this as well. The AMEX Offer says you can only book via RC but here it must be thru Marriott.

Geez this looks even worse when put against the new Hyatt promo which has a 75k point cap after 25 nights and lets you start earning after 5 nights.

Plus 75k Hyatt points is a lot more valuable than 50k Marriott points. Looks like Q4 is going to be Hyatt (especially with a couple conferences in Vegas if M Life is eligible) and Hilton.

Comically bad promotion. I guess their business is strong and they don't need it. Like a lot of folks here, I'm choosing Hilton more than ever. May as well go for Diamond instead.

Actually, it's 10k for 10 nights.

Marriott Rewards has a zillion brands besides Marriott. Hilton HHonors has a bunch of brands besides Hilton.

I just stayed at a Fairfield for $93/night, a Marriott Suites at exactly $100/night, and have upcoming stays at a Courtyard at $89/night. There are all AAA rates (and I am indeed a AAA member, have been for decades now).

Meanwhile, in the same area even all the Hampton Inns are well over $100 a night with AAA (but there are way fewer Hampton Inns than Fairfield Inns in that area). Since I'm on my own dime and price sensitive, and since I tend to find lower prices at Marriott Rewards brands that at Hilton HHonors brands, I tend to do very few Hilton HHonors paid stays. (When I do occasionally find decent prices for Hilton HHonors properties, it tends to be only at Hilton MVP or Team America rates.)

Obviously, anyone whose stays are paid for by work and doesn't have a tight limit on rates is going to look at it completely differently.

Too bad you didn't think of that a few months earlier. It didn't take much to get HH Diamond if you had status at Marriott or elsewhere:
I got HH Diamond through March 2018 through that offer for being Marriott Platinum. In any case, there's not a huge difference between HH Gold and HH Platinum, and you can get HH Gold with a $75/year credit card (Amex HH Surpass).

Two stays for an easy 5k then I move onto some other chain and promo

The low end is easy and trivial. A lose lose for both Marriott and customer

The high end is rudunculous hard so will chase all the mere mortals away.

I don't get the point of the promo at all.

I have a stay at Residence Inn from 9/8-9/22.

I am a little confused. What should I expect:
1. 14 Nights as the whole stay will post after 9/15
2. 7 Nights from 9/15 - 9/22 (checkout)
3. Nothing as the stay started before 9/15

I am hoping the computers are smart enough to give me #2 (7 nights), I will be happy to encounter a bug which gives me 14.

Those frugal Mrt MBA's don't call it a bug. They call it a computer glitch !

& RI computers have several glitch's.
