Marriott Acquires Delta Hotels

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/marrio...130000795.html

It'll be interesting to see if the properties end up rebranded as FS Marriotts or if there will be yet *another* flag under the Marriott umbrella.

Interesting for us Canadians who know the brand fairly well. Good for me as it opens more Marriott-branded hotels up across my home and native land.

I'm sure more details will come out but assume different Delta hotels will be flagged under different Marriott brands as there is some variety within the chain from very good city landmark hotels to more moderate locations.

Marriott Acquires Delta Hotels

Although I'm not familiar with the Delta chain, I like the move as it clearly fills a gap in the Marriott system. I never understood why there were so few properties in Canada.

Given the recent acquisitions (Gaylord, AC and Protea) I however don't think the brand will disappear completely.

Great news!! Delta had recently started to build some awesome hotels. Delta Waterloo, Toronto and Fredericton are awesome hotels!! Now, kill me before sending me back to Fredericton, but the hotel is awesome

Marriott will now replace Hilton as my secondary go to hotel. SPG FTW!!

Recently? Fredericton? Was reflagged in 2003 I believe (from Sheraton).

And I am looking out my window right now at the blizzard and a deserted downtown, and you don't want to return?

This will be great for us using YYC. The Delta at the airport was scheduled to move to the new terminal upon completion now we can have a spanking brand new Marriott with Tarmac views similar to Fairmont at YVR. ^^

Agreed. Also note that Banff has a Delta hotel as well.

Your assumption is correct according to the official press release. In fact, the head of Marriott says that this will help accelerate Delta's growth within Canada and in other markets.

This is a very interesting development. Depending on how things are going to turn out, it is likely to bring Marriott as my number 2 program, right after SPG and replacing PC.

Deal supposed to close in Q2 2015. Wonder how long after that they'll have it bookable, available for points earning, etc.

Cheers.

There's a Delta in Whistler too, where no Marriott exists (I think?)
