I disagree with your disagreement! Having been to Atlantis Bahamas, I can tell you that F&B spend has to be substantial, simply because there is nowhere else to go!!! Guests can choose to go on a severe diet or use the hotel's restaurants and bars. And the place is really, really huge. I have no idea how they can fill the rooms at any rate. A low rewards category would be very helpful in that regard. But eventually we'll see who was correct.

Well it could be a Cat 6, but definitely not a Cat 5. I believe almost every AC is at least a 7 in the States. The ACs below 7 are mainly in Spain. I guess this is all really moot when MR devalues again next year and bumps everything up and adds Cat 10!

I just saw an ad for Atlantis last night (pre-Marriott, just says Atlantis). They're offering $200 airfare credit & $100 casino credit, so guess the part about being desperate to fill up rooms isn't that far off.
Cheers.

They advertise pretty heavily in South Florida, too, although why anyone would travel from South Florida to the Bahamas for a vacation is beyond me. The weather is exactly the same in both places.

You can take a fast boat to the Bahamas for $99. Maybe I'll do that one of these days. And stay at Atlantis!!!

Florida sees more storms than the Bahamas. The Weather is the same 80% of the time but the atmosphere/beaches aren't. You know exactly when you enter Bahamian waters. The limestone/coral base colors are quite a sight to behold.

I'm going to go with Cat 6, as they'll likely only make the Beach Tower rooms available as standard award rooms. Unlike what you see on TV, Beach has fairly mid-level accommodations - it was built in the 80's(70s?) as the old Merv Griffin Paradise Island Resort, iirc.
I checked some rooms in November - $166 at Beach, $360-$640 at the main buildings that they advertise/build their reputation on. Heck, when we went a couple of years ago, I think we paid $99/night or so. They get quite desperate in the off-season with the number of rooms they have.
So Cat 6, with upgrades to fancy rooms for a bazillion e-certs, if available at all.
Yes, it's a great place for kids - water rides, pools, etc., etc. It's not a place to explore the culture of the islands.

Fall is late Sept through late Dec, so I certainly wouldn't expect anything by Labor Day. I'm guess the first couple weeks in October, at best.
