This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

Someone who likes to stay in the heart of the action should not stay at any Marriott property in Vegas. Go for a casino hotel on mid strip, and as 007 suggested, if it is in your price range, go for The Venetian, which is an all suite hotel. Much cheaper is on the opposite Treasure Island and further down Paris Las Vegas.

In my opinion the Residence Inn Hughes Ctr is the most convenient for walking to the heart of the strip. It is less than 10 minute's walk to the Bellagio.

At the Marriott Suites, Pila or Brian will have you a cab in the "blink of an eye". The next 6 months in Vegas are brutal and I would advise walking from your hotel into a cab. We rent a car, only because we have a second home there that my mother lives in, in Henderson, but if I didn't need to go out there, I'd use cabs only.

I agree the Residence Inn Hughes Center is the closest to to newer hotels on the south end on the strip. But two items are important on this thread. Does "seiko" only want to stay at a Marriott property, which is what this forum is about, and 4/25 is just around the corner, and a few of his nights are gonna be @ a weekend rate. I think this shopping should have been done alot earlier.

many thanks for all the input. I am looking for "Marriot properties" and have booked 1100 sqft room at the venetian[it seems to be popular amongst our panel] for 6 nights ti'll i complete my research. probably give the marriot suites a try for a few nights. thanks for the tips about car rental and cabs. Oh , one more question.. any golf courses between las and lax? Got to drive to LA and would like somewhere in between [3 hours out of las] to hit the links.

There are two courses in Primm, NV which is right on the California/Nevada border. Both the Primm Valley Golf Club - Lakes and Desert courses were designed by Tom Fazio. Not much after that until you get into the LA area.
I am confused by your post, i.e., three hours out of LAS. Three hours out of LAS puts you in Los Angeles and there are tons of great courses around the area.

It's about 265 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, so to make it in three hours, you need to average over 88 miles per hour.
Given that that's substantially over the speed limit, most people take a bit longer, like 4-5 hours.
Those of us with small children, take a LOT longer

Drive the speed limit between LAS and about Riverside and you'll likely be rear ended about 3 dozen times.
I've done the drive many, many times, and it should not take you more than 3.5 hours. I've been passed by the CHP while going 85. They're looking for the maniacs that are doing 120 on stretch between stateline and San Bernadino mountains.
BTW, the 3.5 hour estimate includes a stop at Bun Boy (along with a few minutes to gaze at the world's largest thermometer).

I'm assuming you've reserved one of the Venetian Piazza suites, right? Any LAS Marriott property after the Venetian (and that particular room at the Venetian) is going to be a huge letdown.

Driving time to get from LAS to L.A. last New Years Day-14 hours. Almost every weekend at least one or two families are killed on I-15. So. "seiko", please keep your eyes on the road. Airfare from LAX to LAS or LAS to LAX, if purchased months in advance, around $70.00. Pretty cheap insurance!

Just spent 2 days in Las Vegas...the first at the Residence Inn across the street from the Hilton & Convention Center...didn't know about the Marriott Suites -- will probably stay there next time
Also spent a night at the new JW Marriott (formerly the Regent)...great place, got upgraded to a nice quite.
