Have 2 cat 9 7-night certs in my acct, reissue before august?

Have 2 category 9 7 night certs in my acct. Not sure how these will line up in the new system, was curious if I should cash them in for lower certs or keep them for possible use at a better property than current cat 9 hotels?

Thoughts?

I suggest making reservations prior to Aug for these certificates because I expect point requirements to increase rather than decrease. You can always cancel them later. Wentworth by the Sea is one option that is really nice.

I have a 5 night and a 7 night. I am going to extend and attach to reservations in June 2019. Looking to go to Costa Rica. No idea what will be happening to them after August.

Not sure what "cash them in for lower certs" means. I'm not aware of that being an option (for regular members anyway).

Marriott has indicated that the future category system will be published prior to August 1. So I believe you will have time to look at exactly what the future will be and then make a decision. Have some Marriott Cat 9's in mind - see what's going to happen to them on August 1. Have some Ritzes and high-category Starwoods in mind too. You might find that some properties have minimal or no change, and your access increases if you wait until *after* August 1 to attach the certs to a reservation.

If everything is getting devalued like mad, then make your reservations in July for spring 2019 or whatever.

I wonder if Marriott is going to change (or temporarily halt) the courtesy extensions they give to Travel Package certs.

cash them in means you can get points back in your account for a lower certificate... done it many times.

Next year perhaps. But Aug. 1 there should actually be good opportunities to book some very expensive SPG properties using Cat 9.
