Arrow Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel [Master Thread]

There wasnt a sticky for this hotel! And as everyone else states... search didnt provide anything. If for some reason there is a thread, Mods please move.

Does anyone have any recent reviews or any comments on this hotel. I will be in Denver in July and the Westin isnt agreeing with my per diem but the Sheraton is. As always, I appreciate your comments and thoughts.

-cheers

I know there is a thread, as I'm almost certain I've posted in it, but I can't find it via search either.

I've stayed at this hotel a number of times since it converted from the Adam's Mark. There's a reason your per diem agrees with it, but not with the Westin. There's an enormous difference between the two.

It took me a while to warm up to the Westin, but I've enjoyed very consistent stays there for several years. On occasion, it has been full, or not providing rates palatable for re-billing to a client, so I've tried the Adam's Mark.

Bottom line: The rooms are small, old and tired (very 80s)-- every one of those I've had (in 4 or 5 stays), including on the club floor and one suite. Now, they're currently in the midst of a major renovation. I'm not sure how much is being done in the rooms, as I've not seen a renovated room and it has now been about three months since I stayed there, so things could be looking up by now.

In its un-renovated state it's not terrible, it's just fine. But there's a big difference between it and the Westin.

FWIW, I've stayed a bunch of times of late at the Hyatt Regency at the Convention Center, which is an excellent hotel. When there isn't a large meeting or convention in town, you can sometimes get excellent rates there. It's better than any Starwood option in town.

I stayed at the hotel last July just after it switched from the Adams Mark to Sheraton and i agree to 100 % with the earlier poster. Very 80-ies. However, our rate for the stay was very reasonable, so I can't complain at all.

They announced a plan to spend $70 million on renovations, but it's a big hotel.

Anyone been here recently? The major renovation was scheduled to be completed 5/31 but the club level is still closed for renovation. I called this morning and I was told it should be completed in July.

I will also be visiting in July and am curious as to how things are looking.

great stay

Had a recent stay here. Great location. Old gym by pool is open until new one is completed. Saw a sign that states 70 million dollar renovation...$26 dollars to park...cant park between 2AM to 6AM on street parking, which there is plenty of all around the hotel, so that sucked. When driving up, please note the lobby has moved from the tower on the right to the building on the left. So if you are using valet service dont mistake the two and look to your left.
Valet guys and check-in were speedy, efficient, and welcoming. Got two breakfast coupons upon check-in, but no upgrade to speak of (I'm gold). We went swimming...no hottub. Pool had 5 "sofa-like" cabanas and several lounges...
Rooms were nice, great bed, shower (bathroom was small), the renovation of the rooms went well. My wife and I were pleased and had a restful night.
42 inch plasma...no HD channels!!
Breakfast (cold, hot, pastries, etc) was good with semi-service of drinks and plate pickup.
THE LINK was massive (largest I've seen in a Sheraton)...had 8 computers with three printers, right next to the bar and restaurant in the main lobby.

Walking out of the Sheraton on 16th street, there are three local restaurants to the left, one block down (READ - no chains), we ate/drank at two....awesome happyhour (during daytime its 50% off and starting back at 10pm its buy one get one free). Food was also good. All three are on the same block.

Would go back here as the Westin rates are much higher and I was happy with the level of service and conditions of property.

We stayed here Saturday night during the great American Beer Festival, which we were unaware of. The hotel was sold out, looked like all Hotwire rez checking in as we were waiting to receive the suite we had booked. Ended up in 2 queens suite, lower floor, terrible room due to "another desk person giving our room to another guest", was promised a bunch of SPG points for the poor room, nothing yet, but only a couple of days, so will wait before letter writing. I would choose this hotel as my last choice in downtown Denver, the Westin, Hyatt, Grand Hyatt are all way above this hotel in physical plant and service.

I stayed at this hotel in early June.

It's okay, but no rave. Like an earlier poster I would reco the Hyatt Regency.

As a Plat. was upgraded to a good sized room.

Two problems. If you are in the tower across from the lobby, there is no customer friendly access if you have wheeled luggage. First, you go up one floor to access the sky bridge and then have to deal with stairs on both ends. I was told by one employee that there used to be ramps but they were removed (huh?).

Then I had no end of problems with my room key. It worked intermittently causing me to schlep back down the elevator, across the sky bridge, down another elevator to the front desk and then back to my room -- multiple times in one nights stay. A couple times they escorted me back to the room to ensure the rekeying worked. Often it didn't. On one return to the FD, it took five minutes for them to go to Security and get the key reprogrammed properly. I heard all sorts of inconsistent stories as to what the problem was and how long it had been occurring. Bottom line, it seemed the hotel had a known problem, and I wasn't convinced they were working as hard as they could/should to address it.

I was finally offered 3k SPG points for my trouble. While the offer was appreciate, I would've preferred them working 24/7 to fix the problem. I'm growing increasingly tired of properties that don't fix problems, but instead "buy off" one customer at a time if they complain enough.

I might return, but only if the rate were below $100/night, however, I would check rates at the Hyatt before I booked.

I stayed there a year ago and it was a terrible stay. I think they even "force" you into paying 22% tip and 3 or 4 dollars delivery charge on room service.

Isn't this pretty customary on room service?

I can take the standard 18%, but 22% is definitely an overkill for tipping the delivery boy.

I've probably had at least a half dozen stays here this year. Suffice it to say that I've been underwhelmed.

The elevators are a huge problem at this hotel. Not many working, frequently room keys don't work in elevator. As mentioned previously, key cards malfunction in door locks, leading to a long trudge back to the front desk.

Each time I stay there and have a problem, I say I won't go back. But, the rate is usually low enough compared to the Westin that I do. I've started staying at the aloft Broomfield, since the customer service there is much better.

Last time I stayed, they charged me $419 a night when I checked out. I *never* check my folio out before I leave, but for some reason I picked this one up. When I went to the front desk, the agent said, "Well, let me verify your rate, sir. I can't imagine that we would overcharge you. I'm sure it's right."

Front desk manager arrived shortly thereafter, and after I lost my cool a bit (mostly due to malfunctioning elevators and room keys as opposed to the $3K they dropped on my AMEX card), he offered me some points. I told him I didn't want them. I just wanted the nicely renovated property downtown to function properly so I could stay there every 2 weeks.

Sigh.
