Compensation for unwanted porn?
I am curious about whether I should expect compensation arising from the following scenario.
This morning I was surfing the TV channels with my 9 year old daughter at our beachfront Marriott in Florida.
When we got to channel 73, my daughter received a rather unscheduled 2 second education in hard core pornography.
It seems that the full slate of Comcast cable channels was being sent to the TV because the hotel had previously (and unknowing to me) bypassed the Marriott cable box because it wasn't working right (in response to a previous guest complaint).
Just curious.

Two seconds? WOW.... better ask for a full refund....
Seriously, it sounds like an honest mistake on the part of the hotel.
I would not expect or even ask for anything.

Sorry, don't have anything constructive to add, but just wanted to mention that this post gave me a good laugh - though definitely a serious matter

Compensation should be an apology at best - nothing financial, IMHO.

It would never even occur to me to ask for anything as compensation if this happened to me. It's just an *Oops* moment.

Yeah, right. Try telling that to the parent of a 9 year old girl exposed to hard core porn because of the negligence of a hotel employee (if that was the cause). As to the hotel's excuse, I don't understand why bypassing the set top box would allow porn onto the television. If the problem is beyond the hotel's control, that's one thing. If it was caused by the hotel's negligence, then compensation is proper. I think the problem will be to get an honest explanation from the hotel.

Post the hotel and room # so I can check it out myself
Seriously, a free nights room should be in the cards. They (GM's) all have Free night coupons to be used at a later date.

I don't think any compensation is in order here either. As a parent of a little girl myself, I understand that this is could be a shocking experience. It could also be an experience that is quickly minimized by the parent and one that ends up being forgotten by the child.
IMHO, I like compensation to either make me whole if possible (ie get me the room I paid for or better, etc) or if that is not possible, help make up for a burden unfairly placed upon me (ie free meal for room not being ready on time, etc.)
If the scenario was that the OP's duaghter experienced a true burden from having to deal with this situation (like maybe having to receive counseling or something), I would feel compensation in the amount you are out of pocket for the treatment would be justified and plus some.
Sorry this happened to you and I sincerely hope your daughter is okay.
