What if this is the other way round - that the stay is reserved under the name of my partner, who is not an elite member, but I am a Gold member, can we expect to receive Gold elite status treatment on this stay when the name change is not possible?

If a name change is not possible, I'd call the hotel ahead of time and have your name added to the reservation. They may be willing to add your MR number and you may get the benefits.

On a related note, whenever I'm staying in a room with my parents, we all get the same Gold privileges. However, as bulldoggolfer05 pointed out, we'll only get two free breakfasts on two-for-breakfast rates.
