got upgraded to Gold, and not sure why?
I just receive my new Marriott Rewards Gold card in the mail this week, "per your request". Funny thing is, I haven't stay in a Marriott and in a while, only have a few thousand points. I did make reservations for a one night stay in Napa Valley next month though, that shouldn't do it though. Does signing up for an AMEX Gold card come with Marriott Gold?
Not that I'm complaining, just curious as to why.

Did you have a promotion with an airline mileage program? Some of them have been giving away Marriott gold in conjunction with their programs.

hmm..not sure. I did sign up for Citibank AAadvantage and UA Mileage Plus credit cards recently. Don't recall anything mentioned regarding Marriott Rewards.

You might have been sent a card to entice you back to Marriott. Did you stay with Marriott a lot in the distant past? Some other people on FT have reported getting gold cards due to such circumstances. If not, then I have no idea.

no..not really. I did, however, in college work for Marriott as part of a work study program at the campus pizza place, making pizzas and cookies 
Will enjoy my short time as a gold member. Hope to get an upgrade on my stay next month.
