I did a search and did not find much discussion other than on the rebranded Regent property away from the Strip.

We were to attend a meeting at one of the Hiltons. The meeting was cancelled, but we already have our airline tickets. So, now I am looking for a Marriott property as I am only a few nights away from becoming Gold.

It seems that within a few blocks east of the Strip there is a Courtyard, Fairfield Inn (my last choice), JW Marriott, Marriott Suites and a Residence Inn. Would love to hear some comments. I especially want a freshly decorated, upscale place for a weekend in Feb. Convenient to Strip also desired. Also, can we do without a car at these locations? We would probably only want to see a couple of shows and maybe visit a few of the new really posh casinos. Thanks for your ideas!

My suggestion would be the Marriott Suites. Although it isn't on the strip, it is close enough and convenient to the posh casinos you seek. You can probably do without a car if you don't mind a few cab fares. Try a restaurant in Vegas called Pampelmousse - Great. Have fun.

Agree with the Marriott Suites. Nice property, within walking distance of the LV Hilton, and the Riviera/Circus Circus part of the strip.

There is also a Courtyard & Residence Inn across from the Convention Center, but it is a bit away from the Strip.

I would stay at the rebranded JW Marriott a la Regent hotel. Although it is 25 minutes from the strip ,rent a car and enjoy the luxury of a great resort only to get even greater.

My partner and I stayed at the Res Inn in Novemeber. It's only about a 1/2 mile from the strip and the property seemed relatively new. We had a rental car, but probably could have saved money just using a few taxi's. I haven't tried the Marriott Suites, but if you don't use as many points, I stay at the Res Inn. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast and social hour were nice.

I have stayed at the Residence Inn, Hughes Center, many times. In fact, I stayed there the very first night it was open.

It is a few blocks from the strip, but can be walked easily.

This is the newer style Residence Inn (high rise).

The rooms are lovely, nice pool, great staff and they serve a GREAT breakfast.

I am staying there this weekend for the first time in a year. I will post next week and let you know how the experience was.

I prefer the Marriott Res Inn Hughes Ctr. Its about 1/2 mile west of the strip on Paradise at Flamingo Rd. Gordon Biersch Brewery is right there, a Starbucks, and you can walk (again 1/2mile) to the Strip where the Flamingo, Bally's, Bellagio and Caesers all meet.

The Marriott Suites on CC drive has an incredibly great staff, All rooms are One BR suites with a mini fridge and living area. It has a decent restaurant and a very small pool. It is about 1/2 mile from the strip but at the North end near the LV CC, near Harrah's Circus Circus, and just south of Sahara. The water park is also close by. On the same c omplex is the Courtyard and Res Inn (two story buildings with Studios, One BR and Two BR) the CY doesn't do much for me, and this RI is inferior to the Hughes RI. Poster was right about the Hughes RI having great breakfasts, and the Happy Hour food is usually pretty good as well.

One thing about these Marriott Properties (except the Regent) none of them have any gambling. I prefer that as you can get away from all the smoke and noise yet can walk to it and gamble whenever that urge strikes..

I stayed at the RI Hughes Center and found it to be just fine. I used to stay at the FF Inn on Paradise using points because it was so cheap --15,000 point for 3 nights (alas, no more).

BTW, I believe if you have an Entertaiment card you can get both the Mariott suites and the RI at 50% off. I paid 59.50 per night at the RI on the weekend, got points, and it counted towards the free weekend night promo. At the RI you only get 5 for every $ instead of 10.

You will need a rental car or cabs though.

Many thanks for all the helpful replies! I wasn't even considering the RI Hughes Center as I didn't realize where it is. It does look like the closest Marriott to the part of the strip I want to be near.

I made a reservation. No Entertainment rate available.

A one bedroom suite is $116(AAA rate) If anyone knows of a cheaper rate please let me know. I would welcome any further comments or suggestions.

Check out the rates of the Marriott Suites.
It is really nice, and it is also quiet.

I think that one is the closest to the strip.

The staff is great there, and it might be in the same price range as the residence inn.

Do not forget to go to the Venetian. It is a must do in Vegas.

The Suites are nice with a great staff, however it at the northern end of the strip and you could walk to Flamingo and LV Blvd where most people go, however it would be well over a mile. I think the poster was interested in being at the Flamingo part of the strip based on his/her comment about the RI Hughes Ctr.

No questions asked. I have stayed at FI, CY, and the suites, and the Suites is the one to go with. Great staff and good location (close enough to the strip for a cheap cab, and far enough away to get away from the traffic on the strip). As for the car, ixnay on that. Cabby the best way to get around - but check your routes before-hand, as they're quite a few cabbies that will take advantage of you in Vegas with extra long rides. As for restaurants, by far and away the best place to eat in Vegas is at Hugo's Cellar, in the basement of The Four Queens Hotel & Casino in the downtown part of Vegas. I've eaten there many times, and have had great service, fantastic food, and an unbelievable wine service. Get the Filet Atlantis (crab stuff filet), and have John (the wine steward) recommend a wine to your tastes. The lady in your life even gets a red rose when you first come in.

Stayed at the Marriott Suites last summer with the family. Used an award cert and still got the royal treatment as a Platinum member. The staff was great and very helpful. Even got free breakfasts for the whole family because of the platinum standing.
