Been to County Hall once, had the larger room, would definately do for 4 people.
As to the view, I was upgraded to a view due to status, but didn't think the view was that great. I wouldn't pay for it.

if you are platinum, chances are you will be upgraded or will have a choice of rooms, front desk is extremely accomodating. some of the rooms are quite large. if you are lucky they will give you a two room st. as well. top floor rooms have small balconies.

I stayed in this property last summer, and was status upgraded on an Award stay without any prompting. I got top floor, river view. The room was actually quite roomy, and accomodated three adults without undue stress. Two queen beds, I believe, but we slept one/bed, with a third on the couch. In the summer, the balcony is fantastic, and essentially provides a couple people with an opportunity to step away for a minute (or have breakfast. You could squeeze four, but the kids will be watching TV, right? ;-) ). I found the view to be fantastic, and we just kept the balcony doors open all night, and listened to Big Ben chime.
I should also stress this room had a separate sitting area (couch + 2 wingback chairs)with a separate TV. Outside the bathroom was a (8'X8'?) changing area in front of the closets.

Definitely go for the river view upgrade.
A room overlooking the Thames and Big Ben is really why one wants to book a stay at County Hall. It's memorable.
We stayed this past August on a 7 day cetificate and paid the surcharge and it was worth every penny to watch the river, the people and to look at Big Ben.
As busy & noisy as things are during the day and into the early evening, things quiet down nicely at night and I even crack the window open so that we can hear Ben chime every 15 minutes. Didn't lose any sleep, but I do vaguely recall Ben awakening us a couple of times when he chimes. A great experience.
Have a nice trip,
Barry

Contact for London County Hall
I've done a search, but came up empty. Can anyone help me with a management email contact at this hotel? An upcoming London reservation has been transferred to County Hall, but their telephone people are unable to assist.

Just got the generic person who answered the phone in Reservations - didn't have a name with any authority. Thanks.
(To explain, as you know I was bumped from the Kensington Marriott for an upcoming stay and was happy to go to County Hall. However they downgraded me to a standard room, which I could book online for my dates for a lower rate than they are charging me. I either want the Executive room I had booked at Kensington or the lower rate that County Hall is offering.)

Just an update: My reservation is all sorted out. I am once again a happy Marriott customer. It's amazing what happens when you get past the first layer.
Thanks socrates, and the other FT'ers who offered advice via email.

London County Hall - Disappointing
Dear all,
I've been reading so many good things about this hotel, so I decided on trying it out this week (they had a good rate available).
My experiences are not that good, however, let me share some thoughts with you:
1) The room
The room is fairly large for London standards, but does not 'exhibit' the flair of a 5* hotel room. It feels worn off, the worst thing is that all the goodies (gown, umbrella, ...) have large signs with the charge if you take them away from the room.
2) The swimming pool
The pool is 25 mtrs long, but fairly narrow. It only allows 4-5 people to swim lanes next to each other, making it look crowded very quickly. It is also very inconvenient that everyone needs to pick up the access code for the pool (located on the 5th floor) in the spa club on the 6th floor.
3) The hotel staff
They are friendly, but don't showcase any special flair
4) Breakfast
Same as always, but incredibly expensive. I personally find the Marble Arch breakfast to be exactly the same, but at a lower price.
5) Location
You need to walk quite a bit to get to the attractions, even after Theatre you probably would end up taking a cab.
To sum it up: I recommend the Chancery Court over this one by large. The only benefit that the County Hall has is the internet connectivity in the rooms.
Your comments are welcome !

I have to respectfully disagree. My experience at County Hall was among the best at any Marriott. We had a spacious room--right down the hall from the Concierge Lounge, and the staff could not have been more helpful!!
We found the hotel convenient to all our requirements (we traveled alot by train so proximity to Waterloo Station was helpful), and the view of Big Ben right outside our window was a nice plus.
The Concierge, Sandra from Italy, if still there, is one of the best at ANY Marriott. She made friends with my daughter who was 11 at the time, and they had breakfast "together" evey morning we were there. I sent a nice note to Marriott about her.
I would gladly stay there any time

Well, how was Italy?
I leave tomorrow for the County Hall and then ZRH to Como!
