I wanted to share with all of you an announcement we recently leaked on Marriott Rewards Insiders, introducing the return of Elite Rollover for 2011:
You asked for it and we created it. Together, we’ve broken new ground to help you achieve – and increase – your Elite status. The industry-first, Elite Rollover promotion will be back in 2011 for one more year!
Elite Rollover Nights is a first-of-its-kind promotion that allows you to carry forward additional nights to the next year. Any extra nights you rack up on your way to earning Marriott Rewards Elite status can be applied toward retaining your status next year.
We know that Elite status is very important and valuable to our members. By rolling over your nights in excess of the required nights for your Elite level status, none of your Elite nights will go to waste. Rollover nights can also help you achieve a higher Elite level faster! So keep rolling and enjoy your benefits as much as you like.
We hope you can take advantage of this promotion in 2011!
To clarify, all nights you earn in 2011 in excess of the Elite requirements are automatically applied to your 2012 status.

Great news! I am at 93 nights and will have a couple more before the end of the year. That with the credit card 15 nights will put me at 35 before the year starts. Thanks.

This is fantastic! I hope Marriott realizes that this is the reason I racked up 106 nights this year. Otherwise I would have changed to another program after 75. Smart move on thier part.
I especially like the fact that this doubles my excess nights towards that elusive lifetime status.

Probably because they realize people like me...with 492 nights...will be Platinum for the next 6 years with Rollover even if they don't stay a single night in that time.
My guess is they'll want the option to pull the rug out after a couple years of analyzing the data and seeing if they're losing revenue. Same with the airlines...They want to know for sure that people are loyal. Do you get to 75...100...nights and then switch to Hilton, etc?

Great news. First time I have over re-qualified for gold, so have a good start in my quest for gold status in 2012 - this is exactly the sort of thing that keeps me loyal to Marriott.

For some reason I have never paid attention to Roll over nights, but this year I will have a total of 36 nights from all sources. Does this mean I will be Silver (at 2/1?), with 26 nights rolled over to 2011 and added to my lifetime count? I will then get 15 nights from the visa card so this puts me at 41 nights without really doing anything? Is it that easy?

Sounds correct to me. But I think you're Silver even if you didn't roll over or stay any nights just by having the MR Visa card.
