* No Exec Lounge: gold/platinum members get complementary buffet breakfast at the restaurant with a nice outdoor seating area

* Restaurant is closed for dinner during the low season

* Parking is available at the hotel for 40 euros a night. There is a public parking garage (called L'Amy) that is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and charges ~18 euros for up to 24 hours.

JW Marriott Cannes - Review from stay 4/27/17 - 4/29/17

Check-in/Check-out:
I arrived at the hotel around 11pm and was greeted promptly. While I had booked a pre-paid for a city view room, as a platinum member I was offered the choice of a 1bdrm suite or a partial sea view room for my two night stay. I inquired about a sea front room and he said they were already all occupied. He did say I could move to one the following night if I wanted but I said that was okay as I don’t like to move rooms. I thanked him and went with the 1bdrm suite - room 449.
As the property does not have an executive lounge, I was offered the standard full breakfast in the restaurant. I was also offered a platinum arrival amenity but took the points.
In terms of check out, I requested, as was granted without hesitation a 2pm checkout.

Room/Upgrade:
The room itself was very spacious and pretty good. It was basically a normal room and a half. Had a separate sitting area with couch, chairs and then a separate, smaller room with the king bed. The rooms were separated by a sliding frosted glass door. It was perfectly spacious for me. Bathroom was very nice with separate tub and shower. However, it did have a couple of awkward design flaws. First, the shower was basically jammed behind the bathroom door into the back corner. Second, the toilet area next to the shower had an odd placed piece of glass (meant to create an enclosure) that made it sort of awkward to sit on the toilet bc one knees would bang into it. TMI? I move on…
(Note: I have seen reports of no upgrades or limited upgrades but found no evidence of this being the case. I overheard another PLT member checking in this morning and he too got upgraded to a sea view room.)

Overall Property/Location:
Overall location is great. It is located right across the street from the sea and on a great street with several nice shops and restaurants. Quick walk to almost everything.
Fitness center - located on Floor 1. It is basically a converted guest room filled with some old equipment. 2 treadmills, 1 stationary bike, 1 stair stepper, 1 elliptical and 1 weight machine. This was a bit of a disappointment.
Pool – the rooftop pool was temporarily closed due to preparations for the film festival. This was clearly indicated on the website so it was no surprise. I did, however, sneak up to the pool deck to check out the panoramic views of Cannes/the sea. The views were great. However, it pool area itself looked pretty well worn up there. The pool deck is in need of repairs. The pool is also not very large. I can imagine it is not big enough when the weather warms up.

Casino – I did not go in.

Concierge Lounge:
N/A – No Lounge

Final Thoughts:
7.5/10.
While it was nice few days (helped by sunny weather) this property certainly didn’t blow me away. Level of service on par with JW brand but no lounge, small fitness room, small-ish pool hold me back from a higher score.

How is the beach club across the street? Is it a nice beach, or crazy/noisy? Drink service available?
Considering staying here apart of a 2 week France honeymoon. We want to start the trip at a beach destination, do you think this would be a good fit, or are there other marriotts in France with a better beach environment?

The beach club is the same beach as the public beach. The beach is nice, but not amazing and there is drink service. I stayed for five nights in September and the whole beach mood was pretty subdued and not crazy or noisy, but I am unsure of what it may be like at other times throughout the year.

Before using the beach club across the street my wife and I decided to check out the (free) public beach that is just a minute walk across la croisette (directly next to the beach club). After spending one morning there we decided to not even try the beach club. We spent at least part of everyday at the beach, which was perfectly clean and uncrowded. There are no chairs or shade, so if that is a non-starter for you the public beach won't be a good option.

I can't speak to other Marriott French beaches or other times of year, but I was very concerned I was making a poor decision prior to the stay, but it ended up being perfect for what we wanted (a relaxed beach time after 10 days of site seeing in cities).

Here now for a 4-days stay and everything is going very well.
The property, born as Noga Hilton and then Sofitel Palais Stephanie, is a nice modern glass building on the famous Croisette, facing the sea.
At check in, as a Titanium Elite, the professional front desk staff offered me a room upgrade (from deluxe city view) to a Deluxe twin room with frontal sea view and balcony, much appreciated even if not upgraded to a suite as Bonvoy programme states.
Given free breakfast in the restaurant and points welcome gift, although sadly no vouchers for drinks or happy hour.
Room itself is very nice, quite spacious, twin beds a little bit small, large bathroom with bathrobe and slippers.
In-room welcome gift: big plate of fruit, two bottles of fruit juice and water.
Since there is no Executive Lounge, breakfast is served in The Grill Restaurant with sea views, with a large selection of hot and cold food, pastries, fruit, juices, bread and so on.
Dinner at the restaurant is a bit expensive and the menu is somewhat limited.
This hotel has a huge terrace on the fifth floor with amazing views over the sea and a swimming pool in the middle.
To sum up, a really nice luxury experience, feeling the glamour of the French Riviera and the glitter of the movie stars!

According to this link the hotel will close for renovations on September 15 and reopen end of June 2020. They are spending 40 million euros in renovations including lobby, rooms and restaurant.

Work is imminent at the JW Marriott Cannes. While waiting for big changes, we can take advantage of the rooftop, as our correspondent Alain Angenost Riviera ...

The Palais Stéphanie beach will close on September 15th and the hotel JW Marriott, which owns it, closes it on October 18th. Owner of the premises, the Jesta Group called on the agency Moatti-Rivière specialized in architecture and scenography, and invested forty million euros for a complete renovation. Palais Stéphanie Beach beach, which will reopen next March, will offer two atmospheres with a refined design combining different exotic woods and natural materials.

On one side of the central cocktail bar, you will discover a Mediterranean cuisine to share, based on local products and fresh fish. In a lounge atmosphere, the other side will give pride to a cuisine open to Asian flavors where the chef Phai, trained in the Japanese method, will concoct exquisite sushi. The beach will be open all year to the customers and this, noon and evening.

As for the hotel, which is scheduled to reopen at the end of next June, it will make a revolution, from the rooms to the reception areas and the new lobby at the JW Grill restaurant. This one will propose a card touting the seasonal products of the Mediterranean basin with an italianizing touch. In the meantime, the penultimate summer evening is in full swing at the Panorama Rooftop Bar on the roof of the hotel. On the terrace offering one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the city, enjoy a cocktail, sip a little hunger with tapas with flavors that travel from Asia to the East and even dance to music DJ 'experts.

Count on Sebastien Klinhoff, director of the restoration, Vincent Ruiz, head of the restaurant sales outlets, Romain Zapotocnzny, director of the restaurant, and the beautiful Aurore come in reinforcement, to make you spend an excellent evening.

Stayed here this past June (This was my first ever JW stay) and used SNA's to be upgraded to their Terrace Suite. Was not happy with it given that there were water leaks in the balcony. There were only 3 of these suites and the others were occupied. I wouldn't pay 1700 EUR per night for that suite ever.

The breakfast was meh IMO and not with the quality and standards of a luxury hotel. The hotel seemed more of a 4 star hotel and not anywhere close of being a JW.

Any more recent stays?
Debating whether to stick to Nice for 5 nights in early September trip or doing two nights here or Antibes
