Instant 90 Day Gold Elite Status from Air China Phoenix Miles

Found this offer while I was doing my weekly search for new offers to put onto FFB and didn't see it posted yet (my apologies if it has been posted)

Receive instant 90 Day Gold Elite Status and earn up to 4,500 bonus miles when you enroll with Marriott Rewards and complete up to three stays Worldwide. Existing Marriott rewards members can register and receive the same offer. Stay more than 12 nights within 90 days of registering and enjoy Gold Elite membership until February 2012.
Bonuses as follows

Signed up this am, but profile still says silver. Does anyone know when it changes to gold?

It's obviously not "instant." My status didn't change after 24 hours.

Anyone thought of combining this withe the Marriott meeting promo where one gets 10 elite nights per meeting organized at a Marriott hotel?
If possible, it would be the fastest way to Golf until 2012.
