The JW also upgrades, but there you might get a suite, but again, depends on availability. I've had better luck there when there was something wrong with the room - like air conditioner or almost anything else you can find. Their solution to room problems is to fix it or move you up to a better category room.

The Waikiki one is more like a normal room - the rooms in the JW are huge to start off with. however, as the other poster has said, it's really more of a choice of being isolated 45 min from Waikiki or being on the edge of downtown.

If you stay downtown, you can do without a car. You could do that at the JW, but you'd have to eat on property which is expensive. And both places charge an arm and a leg for parking. I like the JW very much, but often I stay in Waikiki because it's less expensive and many more food options.

Any chance you can compare from experience Marriott Waikiki as a Plat and Hilton Hawaiian Village as a Gold?

I have stayed at both, quite often (about 5 times at the JW and 20 at the Waikiki). I am a Plat Prem.

The JW is nice, but you need a car. I felt locked in there, it wasn't for me. I like serenity, but it was too serene. I always got the same room (different floors). They claimed it was a suite, but it was just a large room. Right by the elevators though.

The Waikiki is at the end of the strip. Out of the 20 times we have stayed there, we have been upgraded to a Junior Suite or nicer 15 times. Most of the time we are upgraded to a one bedroom suite (01/03 on every floor). We were upgraded to the 1300 sqft one once, that was pretty cool too.

I guess each person's mileage may vary (case in point, at the Times Square Ren tonight. Awful service, worst room in the place, with others showing online. Checking out tomorrow for Ren on 57th or maybe TS Marqui)

My husband has done both and has those statuses and prefers the Marriott. He's there on business though, not for the pool. Almost always gets a corner room with two views at the Marriott, no upgrade at the Hilton.

FYI the one bedroom suites are currently available to gold/plats only for August for 152/night for stays of three nights or more. Husband is headed out there for work again, so I moved his reservation from a standard room at 169 to the better room since it is cheaper. I think I'm going to tag along too.

We just returned from two nights at this CY. The rooms in the main building are definitely tiny. My wife is Gold but they would only offer us a room on the 17th floor (top floor) which they described as having an ocean view. Well the "ocean view" view was really difficult to see and could only be done by craning one's neck into a very uncomfortable position. However, the location is great in relation to the cost and most everything of note in Waikiki is within walking distance. We like walking across the street to the IHOP for breakfast. The hotel staff are quite enthusiastic and accommodating. There are two concierges on duty most of the day if one needs assistance.

My fave are the Pixie Stix at the front desk and Otter Pops out by the pool. That's pretty kick azz.

Unfortunately, I don't believe this property will ever become one of the better Courtyards nationwide. The amenities they are able to offer guests are minimal. My wife is Gold and we thought they would at least offer some breakfast coupons or upgrade us to a suite. We did get a tiny room on the top floor with a slight ocean view. For the price we paid ($157) I believe, I could have done better shopping for better accommodations. However, since my wife is Gold, we always feel compelled to go for the points and amenities wherever we are traveling and we are normally quite pleased. This property was one of the very few exceptions.

Standard rooms are tiny - 199 square feet - and the walls between guest rooms are paper thin, as I could certainly hear my neighbor's TV as well as chatter in the hallway. That said, it's a good use of category 4 redemption (like from MegaBonus) especially if you aren't planning on spending much time in your room.

I am just a lowly Silver, but 2pm checkout was like pulling teeth. They insisted on 1pm because my room had been blocked for another elite. I don't know why they can't juggle room blocking (especially because my room really isn't that desirable), because they weren't sold out.

But I had an issue with my door not locking (I learned my lesson: always check), which made me wait for security and maintenance before I could leave my room. Because I had been disserviced and mentioned that to them, they reluctantly agreed to a 2pm checkout but clearly were unhappy about giving it to me.

That said, late checkouts are never easy in Hawaii, especially when the lowest tier elite...

I think checkout times are primarily dictated by the housekeeping staff and how quickly they can prepare a room rather than by room "blocking." This seems to be true on weekends in particular. Whenever there's a shortage of cleaning staff, check-out times are limited IMHO.

Courtyard Waikiki comments

We just completed a two night stay here as a stopover between MCVI stays at Ko'Olina and Kauai. We were able to use two cat 4 certificates to book a "deluxe" guest room. We are platinum level. Our room was on the 15th floor in the main tower overlooking the pool. We were offered a "slightly smaller" room with a bit of an ocean view on the 16th floor. Thanks to the info from this thread, we declined. The room, 1504, was very spacious with bar sink, micro, refrig, coffee machine and table and chairs for two. Dinnerware was brought up on request. The bathroom was large and strangely laid out but we used the extra space to store luggage. The shower was very small. The room was an odd shade of green and it was apparent that this was an older, non Marriott built property.
Location was fine. We were able to participate in the 6 block long ProBowl Block Party the evening we were there. This location fit our needs for a two night stay between wonderful MVCI vacation weeks. Anyone visiting Hawaii for the first time or celebrating a special occasion should research their options for a different hotel and be willing to spend a bit more and find a location that will make their visit a memorable one. I had planned to submit this as a trip report in another thread but here it is. Ko'Olina was outstanding and Kaui Beach Club is different. The landscaping here is unique and wonderful, I'm not so pleased with the KBC rooms.

I'll be back there on Sun night , heading to Maui on Mon morn , so it will fit the bill perfectly. Called up and was told Oh I see you like the Royal Hawaiian Tower (the 1 with the so called Jr suites) no prob consider it done

arrive HNL jump on the # 19 or 20 bus get off cross the street and Im in the lobby in < 2 mins , check into the room blast the ac and straight down to the HotTub to get the long flight out of the bones wake up Mon morn checkout and walk to the corner for the # 19 or 20 back to HNL and onto OGG

I agree if a person wants a resort to relax and be pampered this isnt the place, then again Waikiki isnt the place. Ive stayed at the Marriott and I like this place better, alot easier to get into and out of it, The Marriott had me walking and walking as if I was in a Casino Hotel in LV and the pool area at the CY is kinda nice the way its laid out, by the Marriott I could have been by any hotel pool anywhere. Bout all the Marriott wa sgood for was to earn pts for anything you charged at the Hotel which we cant do at a CY

To the poster who complain no free breakfast, Ive only been offered it at 2 different CYs as Im a Plat and no problem since its not an Elite benefit, besides that since All the Marriotts in Hawaii are considered Resorts No free breakfasts to be had anyway

We used our cat 4 certificate to stay here two nights, and paid AAA rate of &116 for another night, thanksgiving week. We had a great stay. My husband is gold and we were kindly upgraded to a larger room overlooking the pool in the main building. The staff was excellent! Our flight was at 9:30 PM, and we were offered 1 PM check-out and use of the courtesy room. We felt the walk to the beach was the same as when we stay at the HHV, just a different type of walk. There is a thai restaurant next door on Lewers, reasonable prices and decent food. We would definately return.

We will be staying here toward the end of December. There were few complaints about the rooms need update. Has the hotel complete their renovation?
