The thread for 2018 is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Giant MD and Stop & Shop's points now stack with Shell's Fuel Rewards. See more here.
If you link a Mastercard to Fuel Rewards, you will earn an additional $0.15/gal for every $100 spent on anything at Giant/S&S with that card through the end of the year.

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

Feel free to update this Wiki or suggest improvements. The goal is to help all of us spend less on gas!

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behaviour if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

The prior cap was $2.20, up to 30 gallons. The new limit is 20 gallons.

It was up to 35 gallons each time for a total saving of $77.

When gas was less than $2.20 it was free for 35 gallons.

The $1.50 limit kinda stinks, didn't realize they changed that. Idk if I'll be able to even use 4K points in 1 month then. Probably leave 1k on the table...

You could always get four 5 gallon gas containers. Cheap ones run around $10, so it will cost you $10 net the first time, but then you'll have them for future promos.

I wonder how many people with only use for gasoline in cars do this.

I seem to have way too many gas points and I can't use them all up to expiration. I've been giving them out to friends, family and coworkers to help me close out the gap.

It's not "free" gas anymore, so more frequent fill ups are still worth it at a discounted price. Whenever I see a Shell and less than half tank, I'll stop by for a top up.

That's a good idea. I have a friend who's self-employed and drives a lot for work. It takes 2-3 days to go through a tank of gasoline for him in his hybrid. I just tell him when I can go to the gas station and let him fill up, and put the remaining ~6 gallons into my car. Works out well, went through ~16k pts last month and got 20 gal at each fill up. That way I get to use up all the points and help out a friend.

You are also violating the terms & conditions of the offer. THANKS!

Not a joke, you are violating the terms & conditions of the offer when you fill up more than one car on the same redemption transaction.

I don't think that was a joke - please don't fill up more than one car at the pump... it just looks bad.

Alternatively, you can fill up gas cans and use those to top up car #2. That is ok per the program terms.

Or you can just have way too many gas points and enter them in twice...

This is why people tend to ignore T&C... The workaround you are suggesting (if actually technically within T&C, I haven't read them so for the sake of argument lets say that it is) creates the same end situation for everyone involved (Maximum amount of rewards used to buy maximum amount of gas) except with a bit more hassle.

Jumping through hoops can produce good results, but typically people only want to jump through the hoops if they're actually necessary to get the results. It's kind of human nature...

Using two cars is blatant abuse that anyone can see. Also its a waste of time. We have two cars, we also have 4 5 gallon gas cans. One car fills up when its near empty and the rest goes in the gas cans. I can put them into the other car at home in a few minutes. No need to drive two cars for a simple fill-up. Friends come over to our house, they get gas too

Pro-tip: Buy a $10 gas pump off Amazon, push a button and the gas goes from the can into the gas tank, no mess and no lifting.

Buying gift cards to MS is a blatant abuse of most TOS so get off your high horse. Feel free to pull up two cars to the pump, one on either side, or fill up gas cans. Until the gas station comes out and says no then no worries.

Giant/Martins will stop you if it looks like you are going to fill 2 cars, and they shut the pump off if you try to pull a second vehicle up to the pump on the same transaction.

http://stopandshop.com/faqs/#gas

"Q
can I use my discount on more than one vehicle at a time?

A
No. The discount can only be used on one vehicle, limited to the tank's capacity, not to exceed 20 gallons."
