This is the thread for 2017 onward. The previous discussion can be found here.

UPDATED Oct-2018: A lot of CVS store take CCs for GC purchases. Some stores check CCs and scan driver's license (with hand scanner). The best GCs are OVVGC and VVGC. The only differences are card designs. The current fee is $5.95 for $25 - $500 variable loading. If prompted for PIN, enter the last 4 digits.

Look for mobile shipping portal with CVS bonus. Certain CCs have category bonus.

CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads.
See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.

Transaction limits since October 20, 2014:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $ 2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period. (Some are reporting limit of $1000 per 24 hrs as of 2/2018)?
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.

Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.

Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

System error after giving them license If you keep getting this error, there could be a problem with the magnetic strip on your license. Have them use the wand to scan it instead.

Similar situation here, except the purchase was on 1/12. Unless the CB posts very soon, it will be my last from CVS with FB.

CVS may have wanted to mess with MSers because MS folks played a game with them, that is why they have given 20th deadline thinking all MSers would do heavy hitting. They will hide behind some fine print and deny CBs, this is their way of giving it back to us and recoup some of the money. I'm sticking to my theory.

No. The memo is valid.

then what is the "item 904512 : Paypal $20-$500" in the memo?
i didnt know there is another type of Paypal reloadable card, besides PPMC

[i know this is a CVS thread]
but has anyone been able to buy PPMC using CC at WG?
i used to be able to do so, but last week, i tried, and it appears hardcoded in the register. the cashier was nice enough to let me try CC even though she told me cash only. however, my attempt was not successful as there is a pop-up msg on the cashier's computer saying only cash is permitted.

i am still able to buy vgc using CC with no issues at WG however

Probably it was a temporary PayPal PrePaid, the one that was giving 5% APY on the savings for upto $5k nerfed to $1k now. I haven't seen these in a while or I paid attention recently. I did notice that AMEX PrePaid are around but all the Serve variants were removed within the last month or several weeks.

afaik, there is still a PayP reloadable mastercard starter kit that can be loaded initially up to $500. One has to call and register this card before funds can be used. this is what the CVS memo was referring to. at my CVS, this is grouped together with MVD, Netspend and Serve kits and there is a sign posted that they're cash only.

Hope someone knows about this. One of the 9 digit numbers on the back of a card I bought tonight doesn't match the 9 digits on the back of the packaging. I went back and checked the last 20 OVs I've purchased recently and the 9 digit numbers matched. The 16 digit card number on the packaging matches the actual card and the load is there but I feel uneasy about this one. I called OV and explained that this is the first I've seen this and the girl kept saying the card was fine. I don't think she even knew what I was talking about. This card expires in 2023 while the other all expire in 2025.

So? Go use it and you'll see if there is anything wrong or not.

I actually prefer the 2023 OV's, as they're not named "Especially For You".
You could see the blank silver surface through the package window.

My 2024 is blank. My 2025 says "prepaid cardholder" on the front.

Edit: Actually, I have other 2025 cards that are blank (04/25, 06/25; from cvs). The "prepaid cardholder" is 03/25 from 7-11.

you know they tell you on the packaging to match the numbers to prevent fraud right?

shouldn't have purchased them.
