What we know so far, that we are happy to share, and won't get the hump when other people ask us or other people get the hump cos we know something they don't.

3V / Pay.com cards are no more

That is all.

Anyone else had any luck using the royal mint coins?

Welcome to FlyerTalk wesguest and happy new year.

The coins are legal tender, which the bank is obliged to accept as payment for any debts you might have. They are not novelty coins. You may need to go to a larger branch to do it.

That's incorrect. The coins are legal tender but the bank has no obligation to accept them, and nor do shops.

You can legally use them to settle a debt in court.

I am happy to report the boxes under the Christmas tree were in fact full of £100 and £50 coins!

Do these not show up on your credit card statement as a cash advance?

I'm going to be impressed and interested if you find a bank that accepts these. The mint site itself cautions that banks don't have to accept them.

Why would they? The Royal Mint is a Government business selling all sorts of (IMHO generally overpriced) items. Some of the items they sell are at face value, but it doesn't mean it will be treated as a cash advance.

I've been doing this for years!! Loads of banks accept them.

Never ever had a problem.

Usually take the lot in at once.

They get packed up and sent to the Bank of England. Jobs a good 'un!

Another £30k on the way this week!

They post as a purchase. I'm not sure why anyone would think they would be cash advance??!

There is a hard limit of 10 per household, how do you get around this?

I'd hazard a guess at using different postal addresses.

You've clearly not looked at the website recently! Hard limit no longer exists. I get them all shipped to my house

It's Thursday so it must mean that it's time for a delicious freshly minted batch of £50 coins to arrive!!

I can smell the silver from here!

The miles just keep on coming!

Just checked on Royal Mint website and maximum of 10 can be ordered.

Also, don't take Amex as payment.

Therefore, hardly worth it.
