Keep in mind this is what the store level controls are focused on:

McGowan described Johnson as slithering "like a snake" across movie theater floors before reaching inside partially opened purses and pilfering the credit cards when she testified last week.

After the pair had several cards, they would leave the theater for their rented van. Johnson would then create an identity card using the victim's name and McGowan's photograph, the accomplice said.

Once that was done, he would send McGowan on a spending spree hitting Targets, --where the goal was to buy 10 $1,000 gift cards, phone cards, electronics and clothing -- or the state's casinos, where she would obtain $2,000 cash advances and buy Cartier sunglasses costing $500 to $800 each. Johnson would then sell the items at a discounted price often getting just $500 for the gift cards.

I was told by a store manager that they are supposed to say they don't have them or at least are out of them so they don't go so fast since they lose money on them. With the cost of the CC transaction at say 2% and even if they got the entire $3.95 which is less than 1% they are losing money.

I love at least one Family Dollar I found,.... CC heaven and they don't even ask for ID so I can use the SO's too.

I was about to ask him if I could pay his bill with my new HH card and take all that paper off his hands but I figured he would not understand what I was trying to do.

Then when it was my turn I did the same thing, just with plastic. LOL
I do that all the time, just offer him 5 bucks or a couple bucks depending on amount to do it. Say it is for the ....... ooops I don't know you and can't tell you that LOL

I have a similar

experience. Went to OD today. First of all an aggrressive asst mgr type jumps at every entrant with " What brought you to OD today?". Thought I would do a favor to the store and chain by bringing this up to mgr...did not because the man compounded the problem when I asked for the Ice cream load....oh yes we have plenty, showed me a ton of temp AMEX PP. Rack next to it where I had seen a load of the cards we all want we're empty. Told him those were what I was looking for. Ablank stare like HUH ?...Drove 25 mins and struck gold.

cashier called mgr , he checked ID, called CC and processed the sale.
Now onto using the BB...

IME, calendar day. Loaded 500 last night, then another 1000 today, less than 18 hours later, problem free.

There must be something up at OD because if its so poplar you'd think they'd fill the racks with them. They have enough of the other junky GCs hanging out there on the shelf.

Do they even check SSN? I know for Visa Buxx you could enter any SSN and it would accept it.

Did the same yesterday. There were only three little beans left at my town's only OD, and when I asked the cashier to put $500 on each of them he asked me to confirm my request three times. I guess there are not many high-rollers out here?

I can't see this lasting if the store has to pay 2.5% or something for the $500 card... that's like $12.50 in fees and they only get the $3.95? Even if it's 1.75% that's still $8.75.

So sooner or later (more like sooner) you will have to pay cash for these cards. Unless the store is getting some kickback, I just can't see it.

If you are lucky to get them now while they still haven't figured it out yet, you're lucky.
