VGC Cheaper at WM than Grocery

Hi everyone, just a heads up - at my local grocery store, VGC cost $5.95/$500, but at WM the cost is $4.95/$500. The only difference being that my local grocery store can ring up multiple cards on with a single swipe, while WM requires a separate transaction for each VGC (an issue is you wish to ring up odd amounts).

In the aisle right before the cash registers. At mine they were located at the bottom-left. Best of luck to you.

This is very YMMV and not all stores have these.

The topic has already been discussed in-depth here:

Walmart enhances gift card purchase policies

At my walmart they only have Vanilla MASTERCARDS, no vanilla visa. They have other $500 max variable visas though. At all my area walmarts the variable load gift cards are all in different checkout aisles, up near the very top, often above candy. Different ones on different aisles so you have to look around.

My local WM had them (birthday cake front) and I bought 'like 10k in 2 weeks and they disappeared overnight. Other local WMs have them aroundme in the birthday cake scheme .

Some cards earn 5x at grocery stores but only 1x at WM. Just sayin.

If you have CVS you could buy VGC at $4.95 all day long. And some cards also earn 5x there, too.

It's all about what card pays the most rewards where. I know I could buy Vanilla gift cards at several different places in my area at $4.95 but go to grocery stores and pay $5.95

I laughed when I saw them - how festive, right?

I was under the assumption that no WM still allows this.

Any data points regarding where WM will sell VGC for cash?

it's hit and miss- from store to store and cashier to cashier- as is often the case with ms.

i buy them when i can simply for diversification of my spend- to spread around to a different store. also just seems intuitively more 'normal' to spend $485 at walmart vs a drug store.
