MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

Rejected on Sunday's 6pm MH791 HKT-KUL @ SGD70 minimum bid. Load looks to be ~16 of 20.

Still have OWE, so no issues.

MH offer me to upgrade on KUL-JED-KUL for MYR 807 per segment.

quite strange since mine is lowly O subclass. I think I'll pass though, quite happy with original fare of MYR 400

3. 3day 12hours out, I dummy booked MNL-KUL and
AS....
3.a)Economy Sold Out
3.b)Just one J seat left (dummy book 2 J seats then no availability)
3.c)UPPED BID to us$140 (worth it for 4hour flight) as a sweet point to exclude any trying to get for minimum in the first 3 zones

SUCESS... just been told/emailed by MH that my $140 bid accepted.

Maybe I didn't need bid so high, but $140/Ł125 for 4hour flight is worth it to me... even though as Emerald i have Lounge/Luggage I need already without the upgrade

nb
Can't buy either Y or J seat on the flight now, MH MNL-KUL sold out the 3planes/day on mutiple days now upto and including Sun 8th January !
How did you go about "dummy book 2 J seats"?

i expect the poster just means that a check was done by way of going through the booking process to see if there were available business class slots, but stopped well short of completing / confirming / paying for the 'booking'.

You can do this quite easily on MH's site by changing the number of pax when searching for availability for flights for the dates you want...

MH741 RGN-KUL on promo fare, originally bid US $60 ($5 more than the minimum), increased to US $65 which was accepted. An increase was probably not necessary.

KUL-ADL. Original bid was SGD315. When I went in a week prior to departure, the "lowest" option was then SGD365. As load was 22/31 I still decided to bid higher and went in with SGD400. Probably a bit high, but it was successful for all 3 pax (single booking).

will there be a price difference between participating in the upgrade offer or buying a last minute upgrade at the lounge?

Huge difference! And certainly a lot more pricier at the lounge athough you are of course buying certainty.

But the price differential is so big, I wouldnt even consider it. In fact, promo business class fares could be cheaper than the combined all in costs that you would have paid with the lounge upgrade.

Promo J fares are sometimes even cheaper than the minimum MHUpgrade cost added to the ticket cost!
