I haven't stayed at the Pen, but I'll be more than happy to sing the praises of the Four Seasons Chicago. Stayed there last month in a renovated Executive Suite with a beautiful view of the lake and the Hancock Tower. The bed was fabulous (as were the sheets), and the front desk and concierge staff were excellent. Also, Sunday brunch is a must -- I started and ended with dessert .
Agreed, their Sunday brunch is really something special. I even like that they have a baby sitter on site and kids station.
You might want to check out the brand new ELYSIAN, which should be opening any day now. It looks like something out of Paris, I think all of the rooms are large, have fireplaces and balconies.
It's located on the Rush Street strip with all of its restaurants and clubs and one block from Oak Street's high end shopping.
Their goal is to be the top hotel in the city. The ELYSIAN is being compared to the MONTAGE Hotel in Beverly Hills .

Reason: additional info
I had a quick (one-night) stay at the Pen last week. It remains an excellent choice for a luxury hotel in Chicago. (FWIW, they did not know that I was a travel agent.)
Book a Deluxe room at published rate and receive a complimentary upgrade to a Four Seasons Executive Suite at time of booking through December 31, 2009.
(Sort of seems to add to the mystery that sabieboy brought up -- the Premier rooms never seem to be part of the equation. Of course, given that they are only located on the 30th floor, I don't imagine that there are too many in their inventory.)

Not sure how close they are to being done, ELYSIAN has had a lot of construction problems along the way including the wall that collapsed in on itself.

Elysian website is saying hotel will open on September 15 and the reservations page is already up. However, every date I tried in November shows as sold out -- I wonder if the reservations site is not functional yet?

Does the offer that you mention has to be reserve through a travel agent or not? I am not familiar with Four Seasons Preferred Partners.
Thanks
Yep. There are 50 agencies that are designated as 'Four Seasons Preferred Partners'. If you book through one of them, then the FSPP amenities apply to the booking, as well as any extra promos, such as the suite upgrade mentioned.
Kagehitokiri has put together a list of travel agents here on Flyertalk, some of which are with a FSPP agency. For example, DavidO is a FSPP agent and he has assisted a good number of Flyertalkers, and has had nothing but the highest praises from his Flyertalk clients.
If you prefer to meet with someone in-person, a little searching around here will help identify some agencies that have the FSPP affiliation.

From the looks of the sight, they are not done with construction yet.

I just read a thread in the Hyatt forum on Park Hyatts which seem to confirm that the PH Chicago does indeed have car service. Apparently, the Fairmont Chicago does too, in a Bentley Continental......

I have decided to stay at the Pen the first night, the RC the next 3 nights, one night at the venue hotel and then the last 3 nights at the FS. The pay 2, stay 3 promo is a great deal at the FS properties especially in conjunction with the Preferred Partner amenities.
The Trump will have to wait until next time....
