Best Luxury hotel resort in a city

Hi, anyone have a favorite?

Mine include:
1) FS Florence - beautiful property right in the middle of Florence with an outdoor swimming pool and park..
2) FS Bosphorus - right next to the Bosphorus river - gorgeous outdoor pool.
3) FS Hong Kong

How do you define a city resort?

What are the basic requirements of a resort that would differentiate it from a hotel? A spa, outdoor pool, golf course, or tennis courts?

I would like to add the Waldorf Astoria in Rome, The Westcliff in Johannesburg and the Metropole in Monaco.

And if Chiang Mai qualifies as a city: my overall favourite, the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi.

I see it's not only OMNI/PR that you post nonsense.

My wife and I really enjoyed the Ritz Carlton Singapore, and I'm not sure if it would be considered a resort in a city, but the Park Hyatt Chicago is one of our favorite city hotels.

Funnily enough, my Swiss friends hate The Dolder's new look, but everyone else I know loves it, and that includes me. It is much more 'authentic' than it was when it had those frightful 1960's wings - now thankfully demolished.

If we're talking "CITY" hotel, then I'd have to say that, although Mandarin Oriental in Chiang Mai is truly amazing, I wouldn't call it a city hotel. The most amazing actual city hotel in that city is The Chedi.

Anyone been to it? I went last year during my holidays to Thailand. It was highly recommended to me by friends and travel agent. I was a bit skeptical because I had read so much about MO, but everyone kept telling me: do want Chiang Mai or do you want rural Thailand? I was going for the cultural side of Chiang Mai and was truly blown away by the architecture, AMAZING food (I think Conde Nast named its restaurant one of the best in Thailand), the rooms (the higher room cat) and the spa ... and the crowd was definitely urban-chic... kinda like its the other Chedi in Muscat (another amazing CITY property)!

The hotels' Chef Concierge had just gone a private elevant experience (I have to call it "experience" because it wasn't exactly elephant riding) where you basically adopt an elephant for the day... you ride bareback and its usually you and your significant other (each on your own elephant) and the guide. AMAZING!

I had dinner at the Chedi in Chiang Mai and had a look around. For a city hotel it was very impressive and really quite chic. My sister stayed there and loved it. I'm still glad I stayed at the MO though.

As for the Chedi Muscat, I liked the design but the rooms were very small and the beach disappointing. Also a huge international menu in the restaurant, but strangely nothing that was particularly appetising.
