the pro recommended FL, like robyng. he actually specifically recommended the colony for both the "on and off court" things "gregarious dad" seemed to be looking for.
If you're talking about the Colony on Longboat Key - one problem is it's in foreclosure:
Doesn't bode well. FWIW - I spent a couple of days there once - but so many years ago that even if I remembered my impressions - they'd be irrelevant today. Robyn

I think in general, and this is a generalization, the theory stated in the OP is correct. "Luxury" properties do tend to correlate with peace, quiet, less noise, less action. Not necessarily less activity, though. Some luxury properties are big on golf and tennis, but I view these as more "specialized" properties, as others have suggested.
Note again that I was there ages ago. But - at the time - it really was a "luxury" tennis boot camp (it apparently has lost some of the "boot camp" edge today). The setting was quite lovely - especially for this Florida resident (kind of like The Point with lots of tennis thrown in). I'd do some research - and see what it's like today. Robyn
My recommendation is for gregarious dad to use the Concierge service to help him find what he needs: valium.
I think that is a terrible attitude! Like I said - arranging a luxury vacation for Dad and family would be a cinch if Dad were "golfing Dad" instead of "tennis Dad" since there is no end of luxury golf resorts - and you don't need a partner to play golf - only a golf course. Perhaps part of the problem is that tennis is less popular than it used to be. Because people like me who used to be tennis fanatics have gotten older and switched to golf. Robyn

You could always fly me out as your tennis consultant. I'd be happy to play with your husband until the cows come home. I could play tennis all day long.
To satisfy the tennis needs of dad you may want to look for hotels located in areas with a large, and largely younger resident community who use the local hotel courts as their club (or a hotel that has access to a local club). You might think that the 4S Punta Mita would qualify, but at least in off season there weren't too many local players -- you could call the pro about during the season. Caneel Bay, while it would not satisfy other wants of gregarious dad, is an example of a resort with a nice tennis program which depends on a resident tennis-playing community. Caneel has tennis events once or twice a week for residents and hotel guests.
