Let's wait for its opening in May. The Spoon concept was great, may be Rivea London will be also great. And the refurbishment of the restaurant will probably make this basement room nicer.

You can opt to have treatments in your suite if you do not prefer to go across to the Dorchester Spa.

This is what I'll end up requesting. Thanks.

London hotel for a sick friend

My best friend has Stage 4 stomach cancer (age 42) and would like to go to London before his is too sick to travel. He and his husband are looking at late June.

Any suggestions on a place to stay? They have stayed at the W before and liked it but I wanted to see if anyone could recommend a place for a true luxury experience.

I have been through the London threads and I have some ideas but I thought someone with better knowledge of the city could point me in the direction of a place that could spoil him, be close enough to major areas to get back to to rest if needed and might appeal to a younger, hipper person.

Thanks!

So sorry to hear that your best friend is sick.

They might like the Soho Hotel, or perhaps The Corinthia. If a pool is of interest, also check out The Bulgari.

Very sorry to hear of your friend's illness, Fheardhaigh. I have moved your thread to an ongoing thread on the same topic where by just looking a few pages above your post's new location, you will find many suggestions. Also, this will draw the attention better of some of the regular denizens on luxury London hotels on this site.

P.S. I've stayed at the Corinthia mentioned by the poster immediately above and although it's a decent hotel, I cannot imagine the service there would spoil anyone

Four Seasons Park Lane is really great and used to be my favorite in 2011-2012 but then Bvlgari oppened!

Bvlgari location is perfect for me (very close to Harrods, Knightsbridge tube station & Sloane Street and you can reach Hyde Park through the small lane accross the road in 1 minute). Their Spa is a gem with a fantastic swimming pool and overall I like the masculine & residential feeling of the hotel. It is also much smaller than FSPL and it is the very first hotel which made me understand the 'butler' concept.

I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's condition. Is it important to be near medical facilities or a particular specialist? That might influence suggestions.

When you say "younger, hipper" (being in the same age bracket I have definitely decided to take that as a compliment for all 40-somethings everywhere!), does that mean he might prefer a more boutique luxury environment? Is he a hip East End type (perhaps not as convenient for major attractions but has a great vibe), a hip Knightsbridge/Mayfair type or maybe a hip Soho/Covent Garden type?

Agreed, need a little more detail. I think Mayfair and Soho are close enough that you could do either and crossover very well. Short walks and easy access to Tube, very central. Knightsbridge would be further out, and is really a mass market shopping area to be honest, not very special or unique.

Browns, Connaught, Claridges are on the mid to east side of Mayfair, and a couple Firmdales are on the central to west side of Soho/ Covent Garden. I would probably recommend those so far. St James is an option, but a little further walk, though not bad from Dukes, or the Stafford to Mayfair, just across Piccadilly.

I just got back from Browns last night, will have a trip report in this thread sometime today.

The feeling of being spoiled by a hotel is quite personal and based on individual needs and expectations. I had a great stay there a couple of weeks ago. Overall, the hotel has a fresh, young feel. I loved the multiple dining and drink options on site, as well as the lovely spa and gym. It had a fresh, young feel. The rooms with juliette balconies are quite romantic and I'm sure the courtyard is a nice place to spend time during warm weather months. I was in an Executive Room and the sleeping was great, due to the total quiet from having an additional door between the room and the hall.

I have posted my trip report for Rosewood London, but I am still working on those for The Corinthia, The Goring, and Great Fosters. I am happy to answer questions in the meantime.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the advice.

I am going to look into a few of these suggestions and see what fits their budget. I was at the FS park lane right when it reopened and that might be a good fit.

PS-he is a year older than me so that = younger (at least in my own mind!)
Hipper=urban dweller, trendy. They love theatre and art as well.

Again, thanks for the help. This is all kind of sudden so I'm trying to put something together on the fly.

Also, thanks to DavidO, who has booked many a trip for me and has been very helpful offline.

I was at PL when it opened and a in January 2014. I must say, it even improved. Didn`t stay at Bulgary so far. Ma "Problem" is, that I normally book a Suite, and the suites are nearly the double price compared to FSPL

I'm trying to pick a hotel for next week and, even after reading through multiple threads here on London hotels, I'm not much closer to a conclusion.

I'd like to stick to hotels offering a free night through FHR right now. Here's the list (unfortunately FS PL isn't on it or my decision would already be made):

45 Park Lane
Baglioni
Claridge's
Corinthia
Rocce Forte Brown's
Berkeley
Connaught
Dorchester
Goring
Langham
Milestone
Savoy
Stafford

For me, the most important thing is having a decent city view. A balcony is a plus. Next on the list is great service (including concierge because I'm going to want tickets to at least one football game next weekend). Food at the hotel is not as important as I plan on eating out most of the time. I don't want to go over $1000/night so, for most of these hotels, I'm looking at booking one or two categories below a suite.

Right now I'm leaning towards 45 Park Lane or Corinthia. I know the latter isn't as highly rated here but I love the look of the rooms.

Guidance welcome!
