Question to posters on this thread:

When you say "I've been to hotel XYZ in location ABC and it was the best", do you mean that the hotel was fantastic even though you stayed in the $250 run-of-house room, or that you had booked the $32800 Presidential Suite and got an upgrade to all 3 of them on the top floor?

I don't know about the best, but favorite to date is Il San Pietro di Positano with Villa d'Este as a close second.

When I consider a hotel to be A best (as compared to the singular THE best) I have usually stayed a few times in a few different room categories, from dlx rooms to suites. I think the experience should be consistent and a true "best" hotel should make the person who stays in the cheapest room in the hotel feel as important and valued as the person who stays in the top accommodations. This is, however, distinct from the additional benefits and amenities which come with higher priced accommodation.

Flyingfox, you mean the 2BR double pool villa, or one of the larger unpublished ones?

I too have did not have a good stay at the Oriental and Kurt Wachvetl's form response to my complaints was very lacklustre. I have not returned since to stay but I have returned to dine occasionally. The Pen BKK, for me, was marginally better, and the Inter-Con better than both. In BKK, the FS is tops for me.

The Oriental Bangkok, upgrade to the Noel Coward Suite in the Author's Wing !
Paid USD 500 for the original room on an AMEX Centurion 2 for 1 rate, thus paying USD 250 per night !

I agree, the Rajadamri Suite is the best room I've stayed in the city. Love the Sunday brunch as well, one of the best I've had anywhere.

I agree 100%. It was such a surprise when we went there. There was nothing they would say no to.
