I've received a call today from the GM, the hotel is having issues re: landscaping and installation of some furniture due to weather issues and will not open until after my scheduled stay. We are jointly working out alternate accommodations, which might permit me to make a cursory inspection of the property and report back.

delays/suspensions >
molasses reef, cap cana, rancho mirage, paradise valley, cairo, pudong, macau, mexico city, hong kong, toronto, los angeles, abu dhabi, bangalore, st lucia, rose island, dubai

...The luxury hotel brand is boosting Four Seasons’ presence across Asia Pacific in 2009, with properties set to open in Pudong, Hangzhou and a resort in the Seychelles.
...In the current economic downturn there has been speculation by hoteliers that planned developments may be put on hold, but vice president sales and marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa, David Crowl, said this wouldn’t be the case with Four Seasons brand.
“The [financial] crisis hasn’t hit us yet, but as it relates to Four Seasons then our investors look at the investments in the long term,” he said.
“All the projects we have in the pipeline are still active and moving forward and will continue to do so.
“It would be foolish of me to say things are going to be as strong as in a bull market, but we’re committed to our long-term development and investment plan.”
The brand opened eight hotels in 2008, including the Four Seasons Hotel Macao and the Bora Bora Resort.

I am informed that the Four Seasons Seychelles is currently scheduled to open on February 6.
Given the issues surrounding the delayed opening, the Four Seasons has maintained a very high level of contact directly with myself and my agent, and made alternate arrangement for our stay which are highly appropriate.

juuceman - I hope you get a chance to tour the place even though I'm sorry you won't stay there. I'm glad the situation was handled well.

'Brickman Holdings 3' has lodged an appeal against the Development Applications Board's refusal of planning permission for the Four Seasons Hotel in Paget.
The plans include a 150-room hotel, 60 fractional ownership villas, 20 residential units, a spa, fitness centre, tennis courts, pools and conference centre to be located at Coral Beach and Horizons. Refusing the 'in principle' planning application last month, the DAB said the development would defy the zoning of Draft Bermuda Plan 2008

thats a good 6 months before subprimes. did construction just happen to be delayed initially, then they suspended it because of economy? i dont recall anyone mentioning construction in reports since then.

I was at the resort when this was announced. Kingdom had just secured the tract of land which curves around the headland, beyond the existing Royal Villas. The idea was to build more Royal Villas. This was in 2007 - only 2 years ago. Let us remember how long it takes for hotels/additions/refurbishments to happen! No plans at that stage (2007) had been drawn up, so an architect/designer would have to be briefed and employed. Would Al Waleed use Bill Bensley again, who was originally employed by the Malaysian Airline owner? Probably not - in which case, you have to find the right architect/designer to complete the project in a sympathetic way. Then you have to submit planning permission, check out feasibility etc. Then you have to install utilities...and so on and so on. Two years is nothing! Equally, even Kingdom is cutting back these days, so strategic delays are not unheard of. I am sure it will happen - eventually.

Four Seasons Aleppo, Syria
Word has it that land has been secured in Aleppo Syria to build a Four Seasons on the current grounds of the exposition grounds, to the north of downtown.

I am surprised about Aleppo. Al Waleed sold his interest in the Damascus Four Seasons and I heard that there had been a fair amount of interference from Syrian government, which was making operations difficult. Cannot imagine Four Seasons doing a second hotel with government ownership, but you never know.
