FS St Louis

Has anyone had the chance to visit the new FS in St Louis. We had planned to be in St Louis before now. Our daughter will be having our first grandchild (a boy) soon and my wife is keeping me on a tight leash.
I checked the location on Google earth and it appears to be on the wrong side of I-70. I hope it will be convenient for walking downtown. We like the RC in Clayton alright but downtown needs a hotel of this calibre.

Not personally but my company has a lot of people spending Mon-Fri in St Louis at the moment. Although the FS isn't one of our approved hotels one of my colleagues couldn't find anywhere else on a last minute trip so stayed here. They had very positive things to say about it, good view of the arch, right next to (if not connected to) the casino, plush modern rooms etc. They got moved to a junior suite overlooking the Mississippi, which judging by their website is a Grand Premier room. He was there soon after opening and said there were a few niggling issues to be ironed out with housekeeping and such.

I live in STL and recently visited the FS downtown. While this is a new facility that is appears to be up to FS standards, I find it odd that this property is attached to a casino and is located at the edge of the landing across the street from the dome. At night the area is teaming with underage to 25 year olds out for a night of batchelor/batchelorette parties... not really my bag.

Bottom line- if you like the Clayton area, I'd still go with the RC for the total experience.

I didn't think the FS was one of our approved hotels but it is now. I'm staying there for two nights in a few weeks on a business trip as a lot of our usualy haunts appear to be booked up. Will report back.

Just got back from my FS stay. Excellent

Location is between I-70 and the river and is attached to Lumiere Place casino. You arrive on the ground floor but check-in is on the 8th floor where there is Cielo restaurant & bar, outdoor terrace, pool, hot tub with great views of the arch.

I was booked into a 'moderate room' (as per corporate policy) but was moved to a 15th floor Deluxe room (so view of the arch and slightly bigger room) with double beds. The hotel is spotless, it has only been open a few months but it looked like it had opened the previous day! The outdoor terrace is superb, there were about a dozen of my colleagues staying here and we went out there in the evening as the sun was going down with a Schlafly's. It will be a great place to hang out on a summer's evening. Nice pool and hot tub too, alas I didn't bring my swimmers because it is all on the 8th floor you have the view to enjoy.

Service; professional, friendly and proactive. Case in point, two of my colleagues went for an early morning run yesterday and they were discussing with eachother how long they were going to run for. The doorman overheard them on the way out and when they got back to the downstairs lobby he had two bottle of ice water and towels ready for them One of the guys we were with had been there since Wednesday and we thought we were treated well until we spent time with him All the wait and hotel staff addressed him by name as we walked through the place and as we sat down at the bar they knew which drink he was after. Doorman downstairs remembered my name and welcomed me back to the hotel/wished me a pleasant day whenever I passed. Excellent

Three of us ate at the Cielo restaurant last night, the service again exceptional. The waiter knew the menu inside out, was really and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. Food was excellent too, (Between us we had veal, lobster risotto and something else!) the three of us just had an entree each and split a bottle if wine. Came to $180+tip.

Although this was my first trip to St Louis most of the others who I was with have been there Monday-Friday, in some cases for the last 12 months. Usual places are the Chase, Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt Regency and Renaissance and they said the FS beats those hands down. Looks like we'll be sending a lot of business the FS's way in the coming months!

I took a few pictures for the general benefit of the FT community...
View from the room
Open terrace on left (there was more open space to the left, out of shot), pool & hot tub. The red thing is a water feature maybe a couple of inches deep
Deluxe room
The double bed option
Decent size bathroom w/ TV in mirror. Nice deep bath
Better shot of bathroom and nice shower with rain machine in addition to usual showerhead
Fruit plate w/hand written personalised note from sales manager.

If anyone's got questions let me know.

Fraser,
Great review and photos, it sounds like you had a great stay. We still have not made it to St. Louis yet since the FS opened but expect to soon.
Is it convenient to walk downtown?

The previously mentioned grandson arrived April 16th and all is well!

We didn't try, but depending on whereabouts you are heading. We went to a bar on Washington Blvd one evening and just took a cab, the hotel are superb at getting cabs for a city which supposedly has a real lack of cabs.

You could walk down through the Laclede's Landing area and just cut across under I-70 I suppose.

I'm certain this hotel will earn rave reviews. Midwestern hospitality is so gracious and genuine.

The FS is in a kind of no mans land in downtown STL - it gets very dark and deserted at night. Thr room rates for the FS in TL are very inexpensive relative to the rest of the FS chain but so are the rates at the RC in Clayton. I also heard - but haven't stayed at the - Chase Park Plaza is a very nice hotel close to the park, Washington University and Clayton.

Not much to do in downtown TL at night unless the cards are in town. The FS is close to Tony's though, one of STL sowntowns nices restaurabnts

Flawless and Friendly Service

While I did not get a chance to stay here, I did spend a lot of time here at the restaurant, bar and a function. Having stayed at a number of Four Seasons around the country and I was extremely impressed with the exceptional service at the Four Seasons St Louis. Most certainly a place I would return with my wife for a weekend getaway.

First off, this is a new facility in St Louis and connected with the Lumeniere Casino. The ambience is modern but elegant. What really makes this Four Seasons a winner is there focus on service. From the moment you enter the door, you are warmly and efficiently welcomed. Drinks at the bar and food at the restaurant are supurb - perhaps the finest tables in all of St Louis. The Decor is really stunning. The chairs and pool make you feel like you are at a resort when in fact you are on the St Louis revierfront. The view of the Arch is fantastic.

More than anything, I really think that the people make this place. From the moment you enter, you will feel warmly and genuinely welcomed. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.

The guys I was staying with have all spent several weeks at the Chase. FWIW, they preferred the FS and have rebooked their stays at the FS.

I live in St. Louis and I'm glad the FS is here. I live downtown about 5 blocks from the FS property. I've stayed at other FS properties so I was excited about visiting.

After 2 dinners at the restuarant, I have to say I just wasn't that impressed with the food or service. Maybe it was just bad timing, considering all the rave reviews thus far. The property looks nice, especially if you get a Arch/river view. There is a sea of concrete to look at aswell.

I don't like the area that the FS resides. Next to a host of bars, thats near the new casino thats next to the ARCH. Add in the RAMs, Cardinals plus casino crowd and you get the picture.. If anything the FS will raise the bar in that area.

If you want an "upscale" experience, the Ritz Carlton and the area it resides fits that criteria better. However, Clayton is very corporate and lacks any personality though. For dining I recommend Araka, which is next to the RC.

Overall, if you want to try something new, I'd go with the FS especially if you need to be downtown.

kmklint,

I agree with you regarding the restaurant. I stayed at FS St. Louis and the service at the restaurant was poor. They need better training and more staff. However, the overall experience at the hotel was great. This is a beautiful upscale property with nice rooms (modern luxuty decor) and top notch facilities. The staff was friendly and professional. I am planning to go back very soon.
