Luxury Timeshares/Destination Clubs (merged)

Are there any true luxury timeshares in tropical resort destinations? I am looking for something like the Rosewood Mayakoba, not a cheesy 40 story Kaanapali beach tower. Private pool is a must. Surely there is a market for this.

If you find one let me know, but untill then.

If by private pool, you would say okay to a large hot tub.
Try the presidential suite at the iberostar hotel in mayan riviera Maya complex. This is still our top rated hotel experience 2100sq ft of pure lux.

as to pool, we were in a 6 house complex in tobago, ( gated ) with private splash pool, great for skinny dipping and a larger pool in central courtyard
some of the units are very high end. but it aint a timeshare

Since you mentioned Kaanapali, do you reference the new Marriott time share next to existing hotel. On kaanapli beach.
Its so new it's still got to be nice?, we were planning on staying there in march.
If it was really cheesy let me know.

thanks

"true luxury timeshares in tropical resort destinations...private pool is a must..."

you should probably be looking at fractionals/destination clubs rather than timeshares.

banyan tree private collection might be the closest to what you want, you buy ~weeks for $120K / $3K and it works more like a destination club, where you can go to any of their hotel/resort properties, no trading/exchanging/etc required. most valuable usage would be 7 nts in 2BR beach villa in seychelles over XMAS/NYE, with market value of $49K.

FS punta mita has fractionals, 2-4BR condos with private pools.

destination clubs >

exclusive resorts
(current >)
- esperanza (4 4BR ground floor condos with private pools)
- little dix bay (6 3/4BR pool villas)
- ritz carlton grand cayman (private enclave of 16 4BR pool villas)
- ritz carlton's abaco club (6 4BR pool villas, i think beachfront)
- cloister at sea island (24 4BR villas with pools)
(upcoming >)
- viceroy anguilla (11 4BR pool villas)

august 13 2008 update >
Ritz Carlton Club Abaco is a point-based fractional that has villas including 3BR beachfront. not positive they have pools. this point system seems to be a sign that RC is at least considering a DC-style system.

november 25 update >
aha - Ritz Carlton Destination Club

huh? there are lots of hotel rooms/suites/villas with private pools at FS Punta Mita, as well as full ownership villas, also with pools.

were talking about fractional ownership here.

The Westin St. John has timeshares that are pretty special. We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the three bedroom models with a private pool and it was magnificent. You can get information at:

http://www.redweek.com/resort/P4649

The 3 bedroom models go for $40,000 to over $100,000 depending on the week. Note - they are building a new section. The new three bedroom models do NOT include a private pool so you will be looking at resales only.

bsdstone, i am confused because you simply repeated something i already said. 2-4BR condos. they are condo style correct? or are they attached villas, more like townhomes? the entranceways on the floorplans are one of the things that suggests condo to me. either way, from the resort map they dont appear to be detached like the full ownership 4-5BR villas.

What do you think of this Banyan deal Kagehitokiri? It seems like pretty good value (though I can't find any reviews on it).

one issue with banyan tree private collection right now is that only the seychelles is a good value.

i guess there could be reviews for their independent villas, but personally if i joined i would only stay in their hotel/resort properties.. which you can find discussed here and elsewhere.

although i guess reservation policies and just how popular its become in asia etc are also important questions.
