Oh dear, I can see a lot of endless, fruitless debate (again) about what constitutes "luxury" - and hence deserves a place in the sticky. (Let's start with Grand Hyatt by way of example...)
It is effectively a moderated thread with Kagehitokiri controlling what goes into the first post. I have no beef with him/her but I think this could prove more contentious than it is worth.

There is often a fine line between Luxury and what I term "Near Luxury". When their simply are no other options the Grand Hyatt might not look so bad.
I believe Kagehitokiri might be on to something here. This could at least serve as a basis of a great resource. I'm sure most of us have many of these sources saved on our favorites or committed to memory. There were a few that were new to me that I think will be useful and that is what this forum is about. As to how something like this would be moderated I'm not certain.

thats why i made this thread. most other forums have these kinds of threads.. but maybe the best sources are not things regulars want to share?
its certainly not like an FFP forum where you link arcane details on earning/awards/benefits etc.
but things like the FHR and Virtuoso links for example are helpful for new people.. how many times do people ask "What is FHR?" "What is Virtuoso?" etc
and i'm sure there are other threads, not as long as the ones i linked (because those are easy to find by sorting) but just as important / popular / etc, that regulars could point out.
edit - this thread was designed to inform, obviously not regulars, but everyone else.
mods - thanks for the sticky.

I believe you have hit upon a topic which will stay at the top for awhile and generate some interesting conversation and perhaps some debate. I hope something good will come of it and I for one will be interested to see how it turns out.

I think its a decent, although definitely not necessary, idea. It helps to explain a bit of what we here view as "luxury" (although it is pretty liberal with the definition). I think this could help people see where to post something and where not. As mentioned in some current threads, some people see a Hilton as luxury. This forum does not and the sticky helps imply it.
The biggest problem I see is the wide variations in hotel chain quality, which is especially true for some chains (not so much FS, RC, MO although it is there). For example, some Park Hyatts are top of the line, best in the world etc (like Tokyo) while others are pitiful. It is even more pronounced with Grand Hyatt where you have Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing and New York. That being said, I think that it is useful in "comparisons" like "where should I stay in Tokyo?" where it is competitive but not in threads like "which of the 3 Hyatts in Tokyo is best?"
So, overall, I think it is a nice idea. It provides a bit of an intro to non-regulars here. I might recommend adding links to threads to cities/hotels which have garnered a large amount of discussion or repeat threads (NYC, DC, Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Bali, Phuket, Chiang Mai, etc). I think THAT would be most useful.
helping new members / guests is never necessary.. it just helps inform, cut down on repeats, and encourages people to stick around/join.

the problem is no cities other than bangkok are that consolidated.
Bali, Phuket, Chiang Mai, etc don't seem necessary at all.. Aman/FS/MO don't have much in the way of competition. Unless you want pools or specific design like Trisara or Sri Panwa. Como and GHM are also well represented, but certainly don't get as much discussion here.

I agree that it may help cut down on repeats and have some other plusses...thus why I believe it is worth keeping.
In regard to other cities, that's too bad that nothing else is consolidated. I seem to remember, though, that there are like 8-10 good threads on HKG, a couple on mainland China, 1-2 on Paris. But maybe they're more single hotel focused.
