One Aldwych - London

Comments for B Watson re One Aldwych:

One Aldwych is a superb hotel and I recommend it highly. The service is superb - professional yet still amiable. The hotel's physical environment is wonderful, especially if you like a contemporary aesthetic. In some ways, the hotel reminds me of a larger, cosmopolitan version the Gallery Hotel Art in Florence.

The rooms are luxurious and the daily fresh flowers are a nice touch. I had an Executive Room. The artwork is nice, especially if you like contemporary and abstract art. Aldwych rooms are smaller and the Deluxe rooms and suites are larger. The health club and pool are fantastic. The Lobby Bar is also quite popular.

The location is convenient to get to The City and to Covent Garden. Circle and District Lines are at the Temple tube station nearby while the Central Line is accessible at Holborn tube station up Kingsway.

Some of my friends say that One Aldwych has an edge over St. Martin's Lane and Sanderson.

I've usually stayed at hotels in Mayfair or Knightsbridge and the disadvantage of staying at One Aldwych was not being within walking distance or a quick bus ride to some of my old haunts in Chelsea.

I haven't stayed at The Lanesborough so I can't compare it with One Aldwych. However, I have only heard great things about The Lanesborough. I'm not sure if the change from Rosewood to St. Regis management will affect the caliber of service.

PS: Although not a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton property, One Aldwych is clearly a Luxury Hotel, albeit a boutique hotel. Advance apologies if anyone is offended by me posting this message in this forum.

If you have stayed at the Connaught, I would appreciate a comparison One-Aldwych. I love the Connaught & location.

I would also like this -- FYI, did you know that Gordon Ramsey is opening at the Connaught ala his place at Clariges

Happy to hear the Ramsay is coming to the Connaught. I was a bit disappointed, earlier this year, when I stayed at Connaught. The Grill (which I love) was closed for remodeling and the restaurant was very disappointing. The re-modeled rooms, however, were exquisite and the butler service on my floor was similar to great Hong Kong Service. I really love the Connaught and would still love to hear an arguement which would persuade me that I should change my allegiance to One Aldwych.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of staying at The Connaught, Claridges, The Savoy or The Berkeley so I can't make any comparisons with the Savoy properties.

The only other London hotels I've stayed at are The Carlton Tower, The Mayfair, The Lowndes, and Hilton on Park Lane.

If I don't stay at One Aldwych on my next trip to London, I'll probably try the Charlotte Street Hotel.
