What's good in Kuala Lumpur these days?

We were quite happy with the SL on our last visit. It's not the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in but the staff were lovey and very attentive. Food was excellent, we ate at the restaurants and had room service. The pool was OK, no service as such there though.
The MO was full of Chinese groups being escorted in and out of the restaurants, which were packed when we went to visit. There were renovations going on too, but the pool was closed when we visited, so that was the main reason we chose to stay at the SL. We travel with our children so that was paramount in the decision!
Is the FS opening soon or are they just residences? This would be my choice if there is a hotel attached, as the location is superb.

Here's an interesting blog post I read a few days ago with some fascinating insights about hotels in KL incl. the new Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur:
Robert Dallimore, the Melburnian who runs Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, showed me the view down to KLCC from the 38th floor of his 40-floor hotel. Across from us is a green-glass tower that will be a 200-room Four Seasons, 20% owned by B.S. Ong: it should have magnificent views but, oh dear, in front of it, as we look down, are two massive holes in the ground. The one nearest to the Petronas Towers was to have been a Raffles but apparently it is now going to be a Fairmont, with a staggering 750 rooms rising up to the building’s 67th floor. Surely it will hide most of the Four Seasons’ views? I do worry that the fabulous greenery of KLCC park is threatened like this.

Why would you say the location is superb? I stayed next door to the FS at the IC and thought the location was in the middle of town, yet too far to walk to anything. The MO has the best location for most people. Or the LM/Hilton twin towers at Sentral.

I may have mis-remembered the location, sorry.

No, the new FS that is under construction now is next to the St. Regis and IC. It would be an unpleasant 30 minute walk to KLCC. If you like the KLCC area, the MO is the choice.

I wonder how The Dharmawangsa is these days. It used to be my favourite KL hotel - pleasantly small, beautifully designed by Jaya, including some of the best suites ever, and with really good food.
The old Rosewood copany used to manage it, but then the owner took it back several years ago and is now self-managing. Haven't been back for a while.

I stayed at The Majestic and really enjoyed it for the character and charm. While it feels a bit more commerical than some of the other colonial hotels in South East Asia (Raffles SIN, The MO BKK) there were still some historical areas that have been restored perfectly. Some of the rooms are rather large and renovated well. I think it represents very good value. It attracts a very sophisticated local crowd and I always feel that is quite telling...

My plans for KL got turned on their head just recently - becoming the father of a little girl this year means that I can't enter most Asian hotel lounges period. Clumsy of me to forget that.
So I'd have to ask again if any of the regular recommendations are OUT if the hotel's lounge is removed from the equation.
