Every time I go to a Four Seasons now, I receive an email encouraging me to check-in online. Frightful idea! Give me real people at reception desks anytime. Hotels are not airlines.

What is the point of OLCI at an hotel?

I am accustomed to in room/suite check in at Four Seasons hotels, so I do not see how checking in online would do anything for me.

It could be useful, I suppose, in case of a late arrival due to travel delays, to let the hotel know ETA.

I used it when I went to the FS Baltimore last week. It's completely underwhelming... Really only allowed me to communicate my estimated arrival (which I put in at 1300). It noted that my time was before check in but that they would try accommodate me.

When I went for checkin they did note my early arrival request and would be able to accommodate me; not sure if it was mobile checkin which helped....

I've only had in room check in once at the FS (Hangzhou) unfortunately. Do you have to request it or is it just given to VIPs?

In room check in is standard for guests arriving by hotel car. That's why I get it.

i always wonder about impact on upgrades when not checking in at front desk

but perhaps could check in online immediately while on phone with manager

apps can involve texting/etc when room is ready, where to go to get roomkey

still have to go by front desk so I really don't see the point...
Hilton app has the ability to pick which room you want which is kind of cool...

Absolutely! For me it's also part of the experience. It's not an unpersonal fullautomatic hotel.

Not in a positive way I guess. Some upgrades I received because my room wasn't ready at arrival. Doubt it will happen with the online check-in

I will just ignore OLCI and deal with human beings. Personalised service is one of the reasons I choose FS in the first place.

At the FS Atlanta a couple months ago they told me they would have keys waiting at the valet for people who checked in online. If that's true I could see it being somewhat helpful but otherwise don't see much of a benefit. In fact, it dilutes the chance for a front desk agent to make a positive impression on a guest during check in.

I think it is not intended for people like most of us here, who are hotel afficionados. Many of us already receive a level of service that supersedes something like online check in.

It's probably useful for the average business traveller, people who are less concerned about upgrades and just want to pick up their keys and get to the room.
